About Anabelle
Expert Analysis
Michelle Bamford | Prep Dig Scout
Anabelle Cummings brought one of the strongest competitive energy profiles in the group. She highlighted defense and out-of-system setting as areas she was excited to showcase while also discussing major improvements in serve receive this season through spacing and early decision-making.
Cummings described becoming extremely locked in when competition rises, refusing to let mistakes linger mentally and competing aggressively through pressure moments. She also emphasized the importance of energizing teammates and helping maintain enjoyment during difficult stretches of matches. That emotional spark can become a major asset for defensive specialists at the next level.

Our top libero in the class, Anabelle will see her fair share of calls and texts throughout the day. Normally liberos are one of the last to be recruited, but not Anabelle, she should be on top of some recruiting boards and get a ton of offers early.
One thing about her game that will help is her court presence and feel for the game. She reads hitters well, reacts quickly in transition, and covers a tremendous amount of floor with her movement and anticipation. In serve receive, she stays composed under pressure and delivers quality passes consistently, allowing her team to stay in system throughout matches.
Division I programs are especially drawn to the combination of consistency, toughness, and long-term upside she offers. Even at a young age, she plays with maturity and confidence that translate well to the college level. With communication opening on June 15th, she is expected to hear from several programs looking for a libero who can anchor a defense and make an immediate impact down the road.

The top libero in the class is Anabelle and if you watch her play you will see a libero whose play pops on film, and in person. She is a fast and agile libero who moves super fast and effortlessly. On top of that her court IQ is one of the biggest reasons she stands out as the top libero. She processes the game quickly, anticipates attacks before they happen, and positions herself extremely well defensively. Whether it is reading tips, tracking hitters, or recognizing offensive tendencies, she consistently seems one step ahead during rallies.
Her technique is also flawless as she contacts the ball with perfect and consistent form each and every play. Doesn’t matter if it is a hard driven ball, serve receive, or a coverage ball. She seems to always get good platform on the ball and correct angles to keep her team in system throughout the match. Most teams just aviod her but when she does get touches she maximizes the most out of them.
The top libero in the 2028 class, and one of the best to do it this season at the libero position. We look forward to seeing Anabelle at nationals this season preform at the highest level!

Anabelle is a top recruit in the 2028 class and might be one of the best liberos in the state. One of her best traits is she is a high-IQ defensive leader with elite court coverage, as it seems her range is unlimited. She shows advanced composure for her age (all while playing up) and thrives in high-pressure rotations. Her serve receive is some of the most elite in the class, featuring a calm platform, and strong directional control that keeps the offense in system. She passes at a high efficiency rate against tough servers and rarely gives away free points.
Defensively, she displays an exceptional first step and lateral quickness, allowing her to dig hard-driven balls while maintaining balance and control. Her anticipation stands out, as she consistently reads hitter tendencies and adjusts her positioning before contact, often arriving in the correct spot early. She absorbs hard drive balls well, keeps balls playable/on target, and transitions quickly back into base defense. Beyond the physical tools, her volleyball IQ and communication elevate the entire unit. She throughout a match/set will organizes serve-receive, talks through defensive adjustments, and shows natural leadership qualities.
This is someone to see this month because with continued physical development she projects as a high-level Division I libero with Power 5 upside. Any team in the state would benefit from having someone of this caliber as their libero.

Annabelle Cummings has been the backbone of the back row for Sandra Day O’Connor, anchoring the defense as the starting libero for the past two seasons. Despite her youth, she plays with the confidence, composure, and leadership of a veteran. Her steady presence has been a driving force behind the Eagles’ ability to stay competitive against some of the toughest programs in Arizona.
This season, Cummings has been nothing short of impressive. She currently ranks 6th in digs among sophomores, with 331 digs to date — bringing her career total to 628. That pace puts her well on track to reach the 1,000-dig milestone by the time she’s a junior. Beyond her defensive prowess, she’s also shown her versatility by contributing nearly 100 assists, proving to be a reliable option when the team is out of system.
Annabelle’s instincts, energy, and court vision set her apart as one of the top young liberos in the state. As she continues to grow and refine her game, there’s little doubt she’ll remain a cornerstone for O’Connor and a player to watch closely in Arizona volleyball for years to come.
