Guilherme Torres | Prep Dig Scout
Stratford’s creative setter kept her team in the game with her intelligent and crafty playmaking. Cook was in a difficult spot in the first set, when Stratford struggled with their passing, but once that got stabilized, she stood out with her smart distribution. The setter did a great job of easing freshman outside hitter Ellie Chamorro into the game and making of her an important offensive weapon for the team. Cook also contributed with setter dumps and swings, besides serving well and playing solid defense.

The senior setter ran Stratford’s offense extremely well, playing with great creativity as she tried to make the most of her hitters. Cook used her middles at the right moments and was very good at making combination plays that got her pin hitters in good situations to score. She was very aggressive with her setter dumps, and diversified a lot, putting the ball down in different ways and giving Memorial’s blockers and defenders very little chance to stop her. Cook also played solid defense and had a good blocking presence, scoring the point that gave her team the victory on set two.

having somewhat of a slow start, Cook made the most of her other hitters and gradually got her right side back into a rhythm. Her setting remained accurate and reliable throughout the match and kept the Spartans’ offense flowing. The setter also contributed on the backcourt, getting back-to-back aces in a key moment in the second set and delivering many digs.

as her go-to hitter, but keeping everyone else involved. The setter’s reliability and diversified distribution kept Stratford in a good rhythm during the entire match and that made a difference in the decisive moments. Cook also did a good job with setter dumps (and even a swing on two on set two) and also came up big from the service line, getting two aces on set two, which ended up giving Stratford the edge to win it.

. Because of Cook’s intelligent distribution and impeccable precision, Stratford’s attacking system continued to flow throughout the match. The setter was also very creative, moving hitters around at the net, and crafty and resourceful when dealing with tight passes or 50-50 balls at the net. Cook was also an asset on the backcourt, serving well and playing solid defense at the right back position.

Cook took the reins of Stratford’s offense last season and did a very good job making the most of the team’s talented hitters. I’m curious to see what she’s going to do to explore this year’s squad with another year of experience under her belt. Cook is a very dynamic and efficient playmaker, who likes to keep all her hitters involved and doesn’t hesitate to move them around when in system. She’s also a major asset on the backcourt with her impressive serving ability and her excellent defensive production.

‘The Chef’ did a very good job running Stratford’s offense alongside senior Jaelyn Chen. The two were precise with their locations and kept all their hitters involved. Cook also made some interesting plays, moving hitters around and creating difficulties for Jersey Village’s blockers. The setter had some good serving runs, serving with precision and getting the opponents out of system, and also made some strong defensive plays, especially on set three. Her setter dumps were also very efficient, catching Jersey Village by surprise.

Cook had some early struggles, but displayed great mental strenght to find her best game and play a pivotal role in Stratford’s victory. The sophomore setter found her rhtym during the match and improved her ball distribution, turning to the team’s main hitters whenever she felt the need to and displaying better chemistry with them. Cook also came up big with some incredible digs at the end of the fourth set and was able to create issues to Clear Springs’ passers with her tricky serve.

Cook had significant playing time with Stratford as a freshman and will be one of the players that will form the core of the team this season. She was on the court in big moments last season and will be able to help the Spartans with her consistent and efficient play as a sophomore. Very technical and intelligent, Cook runs a very effective offense, predicated on her smart distribution and her accuracy. She’s also very mature, letting her creativity take comtrol when in-system and prioritizing precision when the pass is not ideal.

Cook emerged as a promising freshman during the last high school season, earning considerable playing time in a loaded Stratford team. She’s been tested during the club season and has been a solid player for her Houston Skyline 15 Black team that will appear in the 15 USA division in Atlanta. Cook is very technical and intelligent and knows how to operate in each situation. She’s really good at faking and fooling blockers with her ball distribution when in system, but keeps things simpler when the pass is off the net. The also contributes a lot on defense with her great positioning and excellent ball control.
