About Ava

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I have played Libero/DS all of my club career and setter/DS for my entire school career. I am very dominant on the court and am told I have great energy. I love making great plays with my team and motivating my teammates. ! I continuously work to advance in my position by focusing on court presence and consistency. I always strive to be a positive teammate and provide high level plays for my team

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am very outgoing and looked at by my peers as someone that is very fun and adventurous. I enjoy all sports and pushing myself outside the norm. I have many friends and always make a point to acknowledge those that are more introverted.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Outside of volleyball, I am involved in school activities such as track, key club, and hype club. I also competed at the State level for Wrestling. I am very hard working and determined to succeed.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I enjoy motivating others. I am a trusted teammate and people come to me for advice and comfort. I enjoy a strong court presence and getting my teammates involved in the game. I have been active in the community with my mom volunteering through our church at local organizations. I also give private lessons for volleyball.

What type of college are you looking for?

I would love the opportunity to play at a higher level in college. I would like to be a part of a program where I feel part of a team and enjoy campus life. Volleyball and academics would be my main focus.

Corbin is a back-row defender for Free State. She is third on the team in digs with 149. The Thunderbirds have six athletes with more than 100 digs during the season. Free State has a 1-6 record against state tournament-qualifying wins. The Thunderbirds’ most impressive win came against Mill Valley on September 13. Free State went 1-1 against the Jaguars and will open up the tournament against the No. 1 Seed at 11:00 a.m. on Court A.

We have another scout who focused on defenders but a couple caught my eye and I had to add them to my overall top-performer list. Corbin was among the most vocal defenders in the gym on Sunday. That quality allowed her to take control of the back row and keep the floor clean. When you think of floor leaders, she displayed the skill and quality to be a hot commodity for college programs.
