What popped immediately for me was the quick first step and reaction speed Kendrick brought to the floor. You don’t have to watch her long to see that she’s a competitor, and she has no problem flying across the floor to keep a ball alive. Kendrick plays with an energy that can make her a spark plug defensively, turning tough saves into momentum and elevating the energy of her teammates with the plays she makes. That combination of quickness, effort, and competitiveness stood out throughout the morning.

She controls the back row as a DS and is, technique-wise, very sound. Her instincts stand out, and her decision-making on when to use hands for high digs shows a good understanding of her positioning on the court.

Setter-DS hybrids are seemingly a theme of this libero feature. The Class of 2029 still has a lot of time to grow and experiment with positional designations, and Kendrick embodies this well. She was keen to exhibit her defensive range during Sunday’s scrimmages, but this Mizuno Club North standout also stepped in to dish well-located sets to her hitters. Her effort and pursuit set the bar for everyone on her scrimmage team, and we can’t wait to see Kendrick on the qualifier circuit next spring.
