This is a dangerous MN Select 17-1 team that Ellery DeBoer serves as QB1.  The Michigan State commit runs the show as a setter where she has two major targets to Kacie Schulte and Isabell Scheuch who are both heading to Arizona State.  DeBoer is another athlete who has always played up an age group and is now aligned with her age group and graduating class.  When sitting on the opposite baseline of where she is setting, I have a hard time reading her in regards to where she’s going and tempo she’s using.  If the defense keys in on Schulte and Scheuch, she will find another one of one matchup for her other attackers.  And there are times where she knows how to be effective when she’s offensive.  Everything about her game is incredibly efficient.  MN Select made it to the final gold pools, and although they didn’t get a bid this weekend – they are going to be in the hunt the rest of the season. 

Ellery DeBoer’s entire club career she’s played up and age group and now she gets to play with her class.  The MN Select 17-1 setter committed to Michigan State early this summer which sparked other big commits for the Spartans.  DeBoer is the type of athlete you can build around.  From her footwork, hands, and physicality – she has a mature sense of the game.  She also brings discipline to the court where you know she’s going to make the right play at the right time.  With her addition to this 17s team, there is going to be some excitement as well as something to prove for these athletes. 

DeBoer is a dynamic dual-threat player and was recognized for her rare ability to run a high-octane offense while remaining a significant scoring threat herself. She finished the 2025 season with an impressive 780 assists (8.7 per set) and maintained a remarkably high .400 hitting percentage, recording 198 kills through strategic and well-timed setter dumps and front-row attacks. Her 225 digs and 34 aces further highlighted her all-around excellence.

Running a 5-1 rotation as a setter, DeBoer is the playmaker on the court. Her fast footwork and ball control allow her to place any ball in the perfect location for her hitters. In the front row she performs a multitude of surprise attacks including dumps, throws, and swings. In the back row DeBoer is strong defensively. She reads the opponents offense well and has good platform control. Her jump float serve is hard for her opponents to receive and make a strong play.
