As a 5-foot-8 pin hitter, Pierce understands that success comes from more than simply swinging hard. She believes her court vision and ability to read the defense are what separate her from other players in the 2027 class. “I believe that my court vision and finesse separate me from other players at my position,” Pierce said. “As an undersized hitter, it is important for me to recognize what I can do against a bigger block.”

Pierce has become especially effective at tooling the block and using a variety of shots to keep defenses guessing. “When I get extra reps, I like to work on my shots, whether it’s down the line or cutting it to take the outside blocker out of the play. I am able to see when a team is out of system and when I can score with a strong swing or a short tip.” Serving is another area where Pierce has developed into a weapon. “I also LOVE to serve,” she said. “I have played competitive volleyball since I was seven. To learn how to serve, I used to practice by serving over the football goal post 100 times every day.”

That early discipline continues to pay dividends.”It made my arm strong and accurate. I’ve had to serve in some very tight matches over the years, and that discipline early on made those situations less scary.” As she looks toward the next level, Pierce wants a program that will continue to push her both physically and mentally. “I am looking for a college volleyball program that will challenge me to better myself and my game,” she said. “I love to learn new things and have deep respect for my teammates and coaches, so I’m looking for a program that has a healthy balance between the physical and mental aspects of the game.” Pierce also wants coaches to know the value she brings as a teammate. “While I have good court communication, I am aware that I’m not the loudest on the court,” she said. “I have learned the effectiveness of being a silent leader. To me, that means uplifting your teammates personally and making a difference through my actions. Showing your hustle and putting out maximum effort can inspire your teammates to do the same.”

Scout’s Take: Pierce is a high-IQ pin hitter who has learned how to maximize every aspect of her game. She scores with shot selection, court awareness, and the ability to tool the block rather than relying solely on power. Add in an aggressive serve, strong work ethic, and quiet leadership, and she becomes the type of player who consistently finds ways to help her team win. Coaches looking for a skilled, competitive six-rotation player could find a diamond in the rough with Ellis.

She adjust her arm swing in the air as she is able to read the block to allow her to swing around the block. She has strong court vision and finds targets in the deep corners.
