About Kalista

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

As a hitter, I would describe my gameplay style as explosive, strategic, and resilient. I’m aggressive at the net, always looking to find smart ways to score—whether it’s going for a powerful kill, tooling the block, or placing shots. I take pride in being a dependable option in high-pressure moments and staying connected with my setter to run efficient plays. I also work hard on defense!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a competitive but team-first mentality. I’m driven to improve every day and stay focused even when things get tough. I stay positive, lead by example, and bring energy to help lift my teammates. Whether we're up or down, I try to stay composed, encourage others, and keep pushing until the last point.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been all volleyball all the time. I've volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for a few years. This Summer I plan to attend the Police Academy for Youth.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed strong leadership and teamwork skills by staying vocal on the court, supporting my teammates, and staying composed under pressure. I’ve also grown through helping younger players and being involved in their camps, which has taught me the importance of giving back.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

At one point I was coming back from an injury, and that was mentally and physically tough. I had to sit out and watch my team play without me, and it really tested my patience and confidence. But I used that time to learn from the sidelines and stay involved by supporting and cheering for my teammates. I made sure I came back stronger.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college that has a competitive volleyball team where I can continue playing at a high level. I want a school with a supportive community, good coaching staff, and a positive team culture. I’d prefer a college where I can get to know my professors and teammates personally and find that balance between academics, athletics, and a place where I feel like I truly belong.
