Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
We recently highlighted Lincoln Pius X’s quick 5-0 start, but we can also dive deeper into the team’s defensive excellence along the way. Wemhoff was Pius’s defensive anchor last year, and not much has changed in 2025. She is back to putting up monster numbers with 4.6 digs per set through six matches with the Thunderbolts. Having a seasoned senior leading the defense is an exceptional asset–one that could carry Pius back to the postseason after last year’s late-season surge.

Several of VCNebraska’s liberos have flourished this spring, and that conversation has to include Wemhoff. The Lincoln Pius X standout has seized a leadership role with VCN 17 Black and contributes to the team’s exceptional ball control. Wemhoff is unflappable in serve receive, allowing her teammates to take assertive, in-system swings in the frontcourt. This smooth operation has put 17 Black on the cusp of bid triumphs at multiple national qualifiers this spring. Such a track record is impossible to ignore.

We’re starting with a team and libero that dominated The Courts en route to a 17/18 Club division title. Wemhoff was the unquestioned defensive leader for VCNebraska 17 Black and produced her most clutch moments in high-pressure situations. Her highlight film from the event reveals Wemhoff’s incredible instincts and willingness to step in front of passers in serve receive. The Lincoln Pius X standout is shouldering an expanded role this year after VCN shuffled many of its libero lineups in the 17s age group. Wemhoff is ready for the challenge.

VCNebraska is bringing plenty of defensive depth to its 17s rosters. Wemhoff is eager to lock down the VCN 17 Black backcourt after a productive junior season with Lincoln Pius X. The experienced defender racked up over 450 digs while competing with one of Nebraska’s most productive digging units. Wemhoff is also a consistent asset in serve receive who will bring plenty of range and technique to the 17 Black end line.

would be an impact defender at last weekend’s event, but what about 16 Elite’s libero depth? Wemhoff was a fixture in last weekend’s lineup, particularly as a Zone 6 DS. We’ve seen her thrive in the libero jersey on past occasions, but Wemhoff’s enormous impact can come at any position.

The VCNebraska gym has stockpiled some impressive DS talent lately. Wemhoff adds to the growing list after several standout performances with VCN 16 Elite. Her recent reps in the contrasting jersey have revealed Wemhoff’s rapid development as a backcourt leader. We’ve seen her in a primary DS role, but she took a big step forward as the libero during several of 16 Elite’s matches at Triple Crown NIT. Regardless of where Wemhoff fits into the lineup, she is sure to find a rhythm and make positive contributions.

Wemhoff is another representative for VCN 15 Black who has seen a late-season surge in production. Whether she was in the libero jersey or subbing in for one of the team’s pin hitters, Wemhoff always found a way to get the most out of her role. Her showcase performance was another testament to that do-anything attitude.

Wemhoff adds to a growing list of standout VCNebraska defenders at the 15s level. While we’re discussing teams that will be battle-tested for this tournament, 15 Black had an excellent outing in 15 USA at the Show Me Qualifier last month. That experience could translate to a big breakthrough in the season finale, and Wemhoff could play a pivotal part in the team’s success.
