Expert Analysis
Jesse Etter | Prep Dig Scout
The Central Washington University commit did everything possible to push Lake Washington into the finals and ultimately a second place finish versus Mead. The agile and quick Chang gets to second balls that other setters don’t, giving her attackers a chance to make a play. Her tough serving created out of system swings and free balls against North Thurston and defensively she held her own in the 5-1 along the net and the backrow. CWU has a skilled, high level player coming into the program in 2024.

The NPJ Seattle setter quickly established herself as a top performer at the setter spot during the Showcase. “Dynamic”, “Fast Tempo”, and “Great Feet”, are just a few of the descriptions that were given for her play. She carried that into the tournament, where she bettered ball after ball keeping NPJ in rhythm even when she was on the run or setting from a difficult angle. Chang helped lead the team to a dominant Bronze Division win in the 17 USA, after dropping two 3-set heartbreakers to Rage Westside and Sunshine on the second day of pool play.

The NPJ Seattle 17 setter is incredibly smooth, she glides easily across the court and delivers accurate sets to her attackers. Chang has verbally committed to Central Washington and the Wildcats have a good one headed to Ellensburg. The 2024 out of Lake Washington is calm and cerebral in her play and does an excellent job finding the best matchups for her hitters.

Her soft hands, precisely located sets and smart court play put this setter among the best in the state. The Lake Washington junior is a serving machine as well, she racked up 106 aces this year, averaging one per set. She ramped up her offense from the setter spot as well, moving her attacks around depending on if she ws front or back row.
