Confidence is not always something athletes start with. Sometimes it is something they fight to get back. Kaylen Ngo talked openly about being the new player, feeling shy, and being afraid to touch the ball in matches. She also talks about what came next, trusting her instincts, believing in her skills again, and learning how to stay composed when the game gets tight. That kind of growth matters, especially for setters.

When games are not going well, Ngo’s first instinct is to ask teammates what they need and how she can help them perform better. Coaching feedback about slowing down, staying low, and controlling her hands has already created more rhythm and better offensive control in pressure moments. There is confidence building here, but there is also leadership, and both are trending in the right direction.

In a broken play, she tracked a ball that carried well outside the court and made a second-effort save that allowed her team to stay in the point. That willingness to extend plays adds value beyond the initial set.

Her connection with her middles is also beginning to take shape, creating more opportunities in transition and allowing her offense to find rhythm. She continues to lead through consistent communication and positive energy, both on and off the court, helping her team stay connected.

She is currently focused on staying calm and intentional with her setting tempo. That mental adjustment is helping her deliver more controlled and precise sets, allowing her hitters to operate with greater confidence.

Kaylen Ngo Kaylen Ngo 5'5" | S CA competed with impressive tenacity, especially as one of the youngest setters in the gym. She stood out not only for her consistent, quality ball delivery, but for the way she impacted the game beyond the second contact. She covered her hitters well, played strong, aware defense, and never took a play off.

Her presence was undeniable—she was vocal, composed, and in control, confidently running the floor and keeping her team organized. A young setter with both edge and command.

Kaylen focused on distributing her offense, spreading the ball to give her hitters consistent opportunities while maintaining vocal leadership in close matches. She highlighted strong defensive moments, including pushing deep balls to the pins, executing a left-handed setter dump, and making quicker decisions by reading plays more effectively. Her next focus is improving ball placement and consistency, with coaching feedback centered on utilizing her middles more and setting with greater patience to establish tempo. Off the court, Kaylen describes herself as a hard worker who takes pride in efficiency across all areas, from school to reffing to personal growth, and she noted major progress in her ability to execute one-handed sets during the tournament.

Kaylen will compete next at the Las Vegas Classic from February 14–16.

Kaylen showcased impressive versatility as an all around athlete and made a clear impact in every phase of the game. She also demonstrated the ability to run a fast tempo offense and added an offensive dimension with her lefty swings from the right side, creating pressure from multiple areas of the court.

Her range, adaptability, and competitive mindset consistently elevated her group and influenced the flow of play. Kaylen’s ability to contribute across roles and maintain intensity throughout the day earned her MVP recognition.
