Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
Black is the lone Class of 2028 representative for Mizuno Club North 17Jessen, but she makes sure to carry the banner well. She is a true six-rotation threat on the outside who exhibits range and versatility beyond her years. This impact was especially apparent at MEQ, where Black led her team to a bid-earning runner-up finish in the 17 Liberty division. Black was relentless with her tool shots and could detonate through any seam she was given. And, of course, this Holton High School star rounded everything out with her tremendous ball control in the back row.

Most 2028s occupy this year’s 16s scene, but we can’t forget about the “overachievers” playing up with the 17s. Black falls into this category and has become an essential contributor to the success of Mizuno Club North 17 Jessen. This Holton sophomore catalyzed 17 Jessen’s late-season charge at the Mideast Qualifier, racking up key kills en route to a runner-up finish in the 17 Liberty field. Aside from her ability to put down floor-denting kills, Black also passes a large chunk of the court in any rotation. Recent reps in the 17 USA fray have elevated Black’s stock further.

Black is the Bo Jackson of this list! The Holton prospect leads the pack with her totals of 498 digs and 442 kills. That’s as impressive as Bo, who we know knows, when he would hit 30 bombs for the Royals and then go and rush for 500-plus yards in a short season with the Raiders. Black is ranked No. 13 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028.

Black is moving up the rankings after I saw her compete this summer and during the prep season. She is playing a composed and poised game for the Wildcats. Her role has increased this season, and she currenlty leads the teams in kills, which is a bit of a shocker. Through 39 sets played, Black has recorded 136 kills, one more than

for the team lead. She is a six-rotation athlete who has also registered 147 digs and 168 serve receptions. She is currenlty ranked No. 25 overall, but jumped up at least five sports, maybe more.

Black is a prospect I also play last weekend at Seaman, so chances are I won’t see her this weekend, but you never know. She is a gifted defender who is ranked No. 25 overall by Prep Dig Kansas in the Class of 2028. Holton will be competing in Pool C and will open the tournament in the 9:30 a.m. slot against Sedgwick on Court 5.

Black is currently ranked No. 34 overall, but will move into the Top 30 when the rankings pop tomorrow. She finished her freshman season with 196 kills as the third or fourth attacking target. She will always share the ball with Holton’s

The Holton Wildcats are a talented squad that should be fun to watch next season. Black played valuable sets for the Wildcats, recording 196 kills, 117 digs, and 298 serve receptions. She has several quality upperclassmen to mentor her, and I expect her to become a key floor leader before her prep career is completed.
