About Laney

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I play a very competitive game, I am up for every play, hitting every ball I can. When I’m blocking I stay strong and aggressive or when I’m off block I make sure to cover my teammates and play the ball up.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality in the game is, “Go big or go home”. If I’m not doing the best I can to help my team there’s no reason to be in the way of every play. My personality is very outgoing, I’m a loud and encouraging teammate, whether that means I’m in the game or on the sideline.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been getting into beach volleyball recently. From only the few times I have played you can see me flying over the sand for every ball and picking the right spot on the court to score on the other team. Also, my 8th grade year I got an Academic Excellence award with all A’s year round.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

One of many skills I have developed is to have a strong mindset. If I make a few mistakes in a row, it isn’t the best feeling, but I know I need to engaging facial expression and work hard to step up my performance. Letting my team and coach know that I’m still strong and setting a good pace for the rest of the game.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Yes, one big challenge I have faced is a sprained ankle. It wasn’t your normal heal in three weeks sprained ankle. It took almost 2 months to mostly heal but is still not fully. This caused me to be out of my club season for almost a month. Coming back, still with a throbbing ankle. Just to jump, walk, run, or just experience any type of harsh movement, would cause me pain.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m not sure yet, still exploring all of my options.
