There are quite a few athletes in the Class of 2028 who can set and score points as an attacker.  Lorelei Candler Lorelei Candler 5'10" | S/OH Luther Prep | 2028 State WI is one who does it all.  She led her high school team in Watertown Luther Prep to a D3 runner up finish this fall where she was one of the top players in the division.  She has been playing for Madtown 161 National where she is a versatile player being able to set and swing on the right side.  Her athleticism and physicality really sets her up for success. She knows how to use her power while also mixing in finesse when it comes to attacker where as a setter she can go from pin to pin while also being able to execute on the quick tempo. 

Lorelei Candler Lorelei Candler 5'10" | S/OH Luther Prep | 2028 State WI had a breakout high school season where she was one of the top players in Division 3, leading her Watertown Luther Prep team to a state runner-up finish.  On the club courts, she plays for Madtown 161 National where she is a setter/attacker combo.  She is so well rounded where she does a little bit of everything really well.  She scores points from both pins, she can set from anywhere on the court, and defends her position well.  She’s the type of player where the other side of the net has to always be aware of where she is and what she will do with the ball. 

Madtown 161 National out of Madison is coming into the tournament with a bid from the Badger Region  They are the Badger Region 16s runner up behind Sting 16 Gold.  An athlete to watch in Minneapolis will be Lorelia Candler.  What is so exciting about Candler is how she can impact the game in so many ways.  She is one of the top overall players in the Wisconsin Class of 2028 where she can set and swing.  She plays the game with such athleticism and physicality where she can set the ball with ease going from pin to pin, is extremely terminal from the right side, and she is the type of athlete who makes something out of nothing.  A pure playmaker! 

It is not often that we have two setter/hitter athletes as the top two-ranked players in the class, but Lorelei is simply a playmaker and game-changer. She is smart, gritty, and highly efficient with every ball she touches. Lorelei stood out immediately when I saw her play during the club season last year. It’s not just her talent but her decision-making, leadership, and intangibles that truly make Lorelei one of the top players in this class.

What an athlete.  Candler can do a little bit of everything where she can defend, set, and score points.  For Luther Prep out of Watertown she is a definite point scorer where she was one of the top kill leaders among freshmen.  She tallied over 300 kills and over 100 digs.  She plays her club ball at Madtown where that off season experience will definitely add to her all around game this fall where Luther Prep will be one to watch in D3. 

Lorelei is an absolute stud. She runs the court so efficiently and has a great connection with every hitter. She has a lethal serve and is a solid defender. When she is in the front row, she is a gamer on the pin and can mix up her shots with seeming ease. She also has enormous power on the pin and knows when to take a massive rip and when to use some finesse to earn the point. Lorelei has a very high volleyball IQ and is a dominant athlete on the court.

Lorelei is a setter who knows how to take control of a court. She isn’t afraid to take the lead when she is running the offense and is a high-level hitter as well. Lorelei is incredibly dynamic because she can be utilized as a 5-1 setter or as a setter/hitter combo, depending on what her team needs. She has an offensive mindset, no matter what role she is in. Her aggressive and competitive mindset has been a key factor in her team’s continued success this season.

Lorelei exploded onto my radar when I watched the SPVB President’s Day tournament and only continued to impress at MEQ. She is an athlete who runs the show and is incredibly consistent in her play. Her competitiveness shines when she is on the court, and she is a highly talented setter who can make nearly anything work for her.

Madtown 15-1 National competed in the 15/16s Open division of the Mizuno SPVB tournament in Illinois. Lorelei led her team to a 2nd place finish and was superb throughout. Her volleyball IQ is very high, and she moved the ball from pin to pin with seeming ease. Lorelei’s decision-making was smart and effective, and she was not afraid to take risks. She is a young player with a massive amount of potential and one that is already running the court with confidence.

Candler dominated in the 15s division. Running a 5-1, she set a consistent, nice ball to the pins, found her middles in transition, and was a beast from the serving line. In a 3rd set thriller to start the morning off, Candler severed 14 of the 15 points to lead her team to a 15-0 win. Candler is going to be one of those players to keep tabs on through the season and for years to come.
