Fortener has increased her range tremendously during club season. She makes the simple passes and provides quality backup near the net. She positions herself well behind blockers. Fortener makes her fair share of dazzling saves, but mostly under control. She is not afraid to lunge forward or to the sides to keep plays alive. Fortener has even shown the ability to handle hard crosses.

Lyla showed great composure on the court with a calm but effective play. She has excellent fundamentals in her technique and readiness and shows great court IQ putting herself in the right position reading and following the play. She easily returned hard shots and can get to the ball quickly to keep it live. She moves with good footwork, good energy and enthusiasm. She can hold down the back line!

Fortener has helped the E-gals form a sound defense on the way to a region crown. Her consistency has helped her develop trust with her teammates. Fortener only dives when needed, staying under control for two to three-point passes. Fortener handles hard cross shots and deceptive tip shots. Fortener has 210 digs on the season for Apollo.

Fortener reads hitters well then goes hard after balls. She communicates well with her teammates and soundly covers them at the net. She made some diving saves Saturday and made some big things happen out of system. Fortener also has a sound jump serve.

Fortener (pictured) gives the Storm a solid foundation in the back to build around the next three seasons. Fortener does a good job anticipating balls and putting forth a solid forward motion for sound two and three-point passes. Fortener adds in a nice jump serve that gives opposing defenders fits. Fortener led Hopkins County Central with 190 digs to go with 47 aces this past season.
