The senior middle had an excellent performance in which she set a new school record for blocks and led the Mustangs to victory with her strong play at the net. Barrera was extremely efficient offensively, making great use of her high contact point and range to put the ball down, and was set almost every time Taylor were in sysstem, registering 12 kills – she hit from the right in one rotation and was automatic from there. She was also extremely active with her blocking, getting many touches at the net and making it difficult for opponents who tried to score, getting a team-high three stuffs. Barrera capped off an excellent performance with four aces, besides having gotten Katy out of system fairly often.

Barrera and her Katy Taylor team will be at home on Thursday, hosting Dawson, Cy-Fair and Alief Taylor. A senior, she will lead the team in 2025 and will be pivotal for their offensive and defensive production. Despite being a middle, Barrera has the ability to carry the load in her team’s scoring efforts, making contact with the ball at a very high point and doing a great job of swinging the ball with a lot of power – she’s also very consistent and makes very few errors. Her blocking is another tremendous asset for her team, as, besides reading the game extremely well, she’s very technical and aggressive with her moves above the net.

The junior middle had an excellent display and was her team’s most consistent and productive player on the court. At times, Jordan had no answers to her high contact point and powerful swings, which were for most of the time her team’s main offensive weapons – she led the Mustangs in kills with 13 and made just one mistake. Barrera’s blocking was arguably even better as she left the court with an impressive ten stuffs. Besides playing aggressively above the net, she was also reading the game extremely well and reacting efficiently to every ball that was in the air around her at the net.

Barrera has been improving a lot and expanding her game since she first appeared as a freshman with her high school team Katy Taylor. She has very special physical tools, with her long, yet light body, which allows her to move extremely well on the court. Barrera has a strong blocking presence, reacting quickly to everything that happens at the net and using her long arms to get to the ball or apply pressure on opposing hitters. She’s also a solid offensive player and is particularly good at hitting the slide set. Barrera has been recently playing on the right too and has adjusted well to the different sets there.
