Johnson has impressed us at every venue imaginable, from the mid-season Harvest Festival Invite to the bright lights of the state tournament. Sure, it’s fun to watch all the high-flying athletes who scored points in the frontcourt, but you have to credit Johnson for her tremendous defensive instincts in the back row. The notion of “no wasted movement” is a hallmark of Johnson’s game, as she always takes deliberate first steps to put herself in the right spots.

One more for the Kearney Catholic brigade. I have vivid memories of Johnson locking down the Stars’ libero position in 2022, particularly at the Harvest Festival Invitational in Gothenburg. Steady serve receive is the foundation for most successful teams, and Johnson passing is likely her biggest strength right now. That trend has persisted in the South Central gym this spring, warranting her inclusion in the rankings.
