We had to get some Kearney Catholic representation in the mix, and there are plenty of Stars who will be in the postseason running by the end of the year. Carnes was one of C1’s most terminal middle blockers in 2022 while compiling over three kills per set from that position. Ball control will also be a strength for Kearney Catholic, allowing Carnes to maximize her attempts as a senior.

Carnes’s dominance at the middle blocker spot came to our attention during the 2022 high school season. She emerged as a go-to attacker as the Stars added another state tournament appearance to their docket. In the club season, however, Carnes seemed to elevate her game once step further with Nebraska Pride Gold 17s. We’ll see that improvement on the big stage this summer as Carnes and Nebraska Pride take on Nationals.

Nebraska Pride gets so many of its top contributors from the Kearney Catholic program, and Carnes is one of those that has to be mentioned. Her physicality at the net was a major matchup advantage for Gold 17s last weekend, both offensively and in the team’s blocking schemes. Carnes came into the GPR Bid Tournament having performed well on big stages before, so this latest standout moment was nothing new for the six-foot-three middle.

Carnes first landed on my radar with her performance in September’s Harvest Festival Invite in Gothenburg. She’s an instant gamechanger in the frontcourt for Kearney Catholic, as she locks down the net with both her blocking and her assertive swings. This junior middle blocker was a huge factor in getting the Stars back to the postseason despite some impactful departures from last year’s runner-up squad.
