According to her coach, Stacie Johnson, ” Maya was a beast all weekend. She read the game really well and took over the passing game, taking pressure off of the other players.” Sargent has a high volleyball IQ and reads hitters well. Having watched her in person, she has great lateral movement and well-developed platform that allows her to deliver pinpoint passes. Maya generally stays on her feet well but can track down errant balls to keep rallies alive. She is going to a fun one to watch as she continues to grow in the game.

Sargent operates with a level of defensive anticipation that allows her to influence nearly every phase of the back row. She quickly identifies offensive tendencies and consistently positions herself in advantageous locations before the attack develops, giving her exceptional range in middle-court defense. Her ability to take away seams allows surrounding defenders more freedom within the defensive system, particularly in deep-middle responsibilities. Beyond her defensive instincts, Sargent shows advanced composure in transition play, delivering controlled out-of-system contacts that maintain offensive flow rather than simply sending free balls. She combines scrappiness with disciplined movement patterns, making her one of the more technically efficient defenders in her class.
