The 2030 class is already making some noise across Arkansas. We are only a few weeks into the season, but several freshmen have stepped into varsity lineups and shown they belong. Some are already putting up big numbers, while others are finding ways to help experienced teams win. Sometimes opportunity presents itself early in a career and it is up to the player to take it and run with it. There are a lot more great freshman in Arkansas, but these ten have seized the chance in front of them.

What I like about this group is that they aren't playing like freshmen. They are taking big swings, running offenses, handling serve receive and competing against players three and four years older without backing down.

There is a long way to go with this class, and there are plenty more players I still need to see. But these are some of the 2030s who have caught my attention early and are definitely worth keeping an eye on.

I have covered Finley a few times in club this past season and quite frankly, she's a fun one to watch. The 5'11" outside plays with confidence and an attacking mentality more like an upperclassman than a freshman.. She has advanced approach mechanics, isn't afraid to take a big swing and competes with an edge that stands out for a freshman. You can tell she just loves the game and has fun playing.

Against Conway, I was impressed with how comfortable Rice looks competing against older, more experienced players. The level of competition doesn't change the way she plays. She stays aggressive on the RS, remains engaged defensively and doesn't shy away from big moments. With several years of physical development still ahead of her, Rice already has an impressive foundation and a ceiling that makes her one of the 2030s I'll be watching closely. I do not have her stats currently.

From Coach Stroud,”She is an incredibly hard worker and has been so coachable throughout the season. She's a well rounded outside hitter who has stepped up to play varsity and has embraced learning a new role on the right side. She continues to grow every day and is becoming such a force to be reckoned with on the court. I'm excited to see all the great things she will accomplish. We are incredibly lucky to have her in our program.”

The name Ricketts is already well known in Harrison, but this freshman isn't living off her older sister's name. Out of the gate Colbie has responded with production in nearly every phase of the game. She has dished out 145 assists through 27 sets while averaging 5.4 assists per set, but she is much more than a setter.

Ricketts has added 57 kills, 23 aces and 52 digs, showing the versatility seldom seen in a young player. Her ability to set, attack and defend gives Harrison options with its lineup and allows her to impact a match in several different ways. That kind of all-around production this early in a varsity career makes Ricketts a 2030 to keep an eye on.

From Coach Mattix, “Colbie is a game changer. She has beautiful hands like butter and a player you want serving or hitting the ball at game point. She loves a challenge and comes to practice daily ready to work.”

Bush is making an immediate impact for Lamar and has quickly established herself as one of the team's primary offensive weapons. Through 17 sets, the freshman has already put down 78 kills at an impressive 4.6 kills per set. Bri stated, "As a freshman it is challenging at times, but I am so grateful to have this opportunity. I play with an amazing group of girls that push me to be a better athlete everyday."

Bri isn't just contributing at the net. She is handling a significant amount of serve receive and playing back row defense, giving Lamar a young six-rotation option. With 46 digs and 77 serve receptions already, she is being asked to do a lot for a freshman. The next step will be improving her .202 hitting percentage as she learns when to take the big swing and when to use the court. She's off to a great start this season.

Gillam is making an immediate impact in the front row and has emerged as one of the more productive freshmen in the 2030 class. She has already put down 98 kills while hitting .233, showing she can handle a significant offensive role despite her youth. "Being able to contribute this much as a freshman means a lot to me. I know I still have a lot to learn, and that just motivates me to keep working and become an even better player," said Gillam in an earlier conversation I had with her.

Her production isn't limited to attacking. Gillam has added 23 blocks, 22 digs and 12 aces, giving her an impact in several areas of the game. The ability to play both middle and right side also gives her valuable front-row versatility. With 98 kills already as a freshman and plenty of development still ahead, Gillam is a young prospect whose ceiling will be interesting to follow.

Smartt is another freshman already earning meaningful varsity minutes and showing the versatility to contribute at multiple spots across the front row. Through 23 sets, she has recorded 37 kills while hitting an efficient .275. Juliet and Alli Jones are coached by former Prep Dig Arkansas Lead Scout Hannah Hankins.

The MH/OH combination makes Smartt particularly interesting at this stage of her development. She is showing that she can score efficiently while also contributing beyond the net with 38 digs and 13 aces. For a freshman still adjusting to varsity volleyball, the early efficiency and ability to impact different phases of the game are encouraging signs. Smartt is another 2030 worth following as her role continues to grow.

Jones is showing early that she can impact a match in several different ways. The freshman has recorded 61 assists through 23 sets while also producing 27 kills, giving her the ability to both run the offense and become part of it.

Her all-around numbers are what really stand out. Jones has already collected 70 digs and 31 aces, showing her value defensively and from the service line. Her versatility as a setter/right side gives her team plenty of lineup options, and she is gaining valuable experience playing multiple roles at the varsity level. With her ability to set, attack, serve and defend, Jones is an intriguing 2030 prospect to follow.

Booy is another 2030 already making an impact at the varsity level. Through 18 sets, she has put down 42 kills while also contributing in the back row, showing early signs of developing into a true six-rotation pin.

Her 30 digs and 32 serve receptions show that she isn't being protected in the rotation. She is being asked to pass, defend and terminate from the pin. With 42 kills already, Booy is averaging 2.3 kills per set. As her game continues to develop and she adjusts to the speed and physicality of varsity volleyball, there is plenty to like about her early production.

Bos is already taking on significant back-row responsibility as a freshman. Through 22 sets, she has collected 69 digs while averaging 3.1 digs per set and has handled 100 serve receptions.

Those numbers show a young player who is being trusted with first-ball contact and asked to keep her team in system. Bos has also contributed eight aces and eight assists, giving her additional ways to impact a match. Defensive players sometimes get overlooked when talking about young prospects, but earning this much serve-receive responsibility as a freshman is noteworthy. Bos is building a strong foundation at one of the most demanding positions on the floor.

Unfortunately, Yancey is out for the year but will be back stronger for club season. In the meantime Davis has stepped up for Lakeside. She is providing strong defense at the net and has a strong swing. She is raw but making an impact immediately.

I was able to watch her in person at a recent Lakeside game. Mari is very explosive and is getting better at reading hitters. The more connection she makes with her setters, the better she will be. Coach Thigpen stated, "She is really starting to improve. She had 4 blocks the other night. She is fast and getting faster. Mari is getting a few kills a game and has a great attitude and works hard for me."
