Expert Analysis
Anjonai Bruno | Prep Dig Scout
Mia is a high-flying outside hitter with a powerful arm and sharp offensive instincts. She elevates with ease and either finds the split in the block or simply goes over it. Her attacking decisions are mature—using tools off the block and placing smart shots to score consistently. Defensively, she holds her own with great court awareness and quick reactions. Her transition footwork is fast and efficient, allowing her to stay ready on every play. She also brings a strong hybrid float serve that just clears the net and lands deep, keeping passers on their heels.

Owens was the centerpiece in the TAV Houston 16 Adidas – Micah team that finished ninth with two wins and three losses. The team’s playing system revolves around her in a certain way and she delivered strong performances on both sides of the ball over the weekend. A very productive offensive player, Owens used her size and power to score from the left and the right, but also impressed with her ability to hit around the block. She also displayed a solid backcourt game, executing difficult passes with great precision and touching on a lot of balls on defense.

The sophomore right side wasn’t super involved offensively, but did a good job when she was set, showing interesting tools to put the ball down and avoiding errors. Owens made a much more significant impact with her blocking, creating problems for The Woodlands’ pin hitters with her excellent reading and timing at the net. She got some stuffs in key moments of the match, getting points at the end of sets or that helped stop strong pushes made by their opponents.
