About Payton
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I would say my gameplay style is aggressive and go-getting. I will take as much of the court as I can as well as command the back row. Communication is key in my style. Effectively communicating helps my teammates know who is getting the ball and what is happening at all times. I also contribute to my teammates that hit, telling them where the block is, and if there is a split in the block.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
My mentality is to not let the ball touch the floor at anytime. I am always staying positive to uplift myself and my teammates. If I make a mistake it is always next point thinking and I don’t dwell on my mistake, I learn from it. I always support my teammates through their highs and lows. I have a fun, positive, and competitive personality. I want to win by any means necessary.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I am currently a chemistry tutor for peers.
I am apart of Student Council for my High School. I have been invited to our National Honors Society (NHS). I have been awarded Student of the Month. I also have been on the gold status Honor Roll my entire High School career.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I have developed leadership qualities through being captain of my High School JV1 Volleyball team. I had become a role model for the younger players and lead the team through hard matches. I am also a leader for my club team. In January I received the Pinnacle Player award for my team. This award meant that I was a leader on my team and my teammates look up to me.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I have faced a challenge that will continue to challenge me my entire career. It is my height. My short stature was hard to work with in the beginning of my career. Over my first club season I had to learn to adapt to my height and focus on harder angles as well as getting behind the ball in serve receive. I have worked hard to overcome this challenge and earn a spot on the court.
What type of college are you looking for?
I am looking for a type of college that has a good Pre-Law program as well as a high-level, competitive Volleyball team. I am looking for a college that is not too big nor too small, a safe, supportive community, and a staff that will help me grow as a person on and off the court.

Charlie Shields | Prep Dig Scout
Payton plays with a high volleyball IQ, seeing the game a step ahead and reading hitters like a book. She’s a rock in serve receive, delivering dime passes that put her setters in a perfect spot. Quick, scrappy, and always on the move, Payton makes defensive plays that swing momentum in her team’s favor.
