About Shaina

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I focus on the job I have on the court like passing the ball in defense or serve receive so that my teammates can execute their job to their full potential. As a libero and defense specialist, I go for every ball because you never know if you can get a touch on it unless you try.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am very energetic and uplifting on and off the court. I believe if one person has a good mindset then it will spread throughout court, but it also takes one person with the wrong mindset to bring the whole team down.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have received honor roll this year and a few years before as well.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have volunteered to decorate ornaments for children in foster care. I've also volunteered at the Mac Academy in Long Beach to help kids learn the key techniques and basics of volleyball which has helped me become more versatile while working with different people.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

A significant challenge I have faced in the past is getting in my head. I realized that if you are stuck worrying about every move you make then you are not allowing yourself to grow and learn from the mistake.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college that has a good volleyball and educational program. I also want a supportive community that will make me feel like I belong and many resources that can help me succeed academically and personally.
