Sidney has the highest assist average in this group at 9.3 per set. The Katy junior has 928 assists in exactly 100 sets and serves as a team captain. When our Prep Dig staff watched her last year, she stood out for her creative distribution and her ability to catch defenses off guard with setter dumps. She has carried that creativity into this season. Her best night came in a five set win over Paetow when she dished out 46 assists. In an earlier sweep of Paetow she had 29 assists with four aces and two solo blocks. She also has experience swinging from the right side and digging in right back, which makes her a well rounded player. She plays up an age group in the club season, so she is used to seeing faster competition. Her vision and court sense make her one of the smartest setters in the 2028 class. Please help us congratulate her on earning this well deserved recognition.

Katy’s starting setter Paxton played a big role in Katy’s strong offensive display with excellent playmaking and creative distribution. The junior did a great job of keeping all her hitters involved and demonstrated a great feel for the game, using each of them at the right times. Paxton forced some balls in the middle in transition that caught opponents off guard and got her hitters in great positions to score. The setter also served very well and came up with nice digs at the right back position.

Paxton and her Katy teammates completed their schedule with four wins and four losses. The junior did a good job of keeping their offense firing on all cylinders with her intelligent and well-balanced distribution. Paxton showed great chemistry with her middles, running different plays with them, and was very precise when delivering a quick set at the pin, getting her hitters in comfortable spots at the net. The setter also showed good defensive skills and contributed on the back row.

Paxton plays high school volleyball for Katy and will be in action with Houston Juniors in the club season, playing up with their 17 Premier team. She had some of the best setting hands in the entire event, making impressive plays during the drills. Paxton’s accurate touch on the ball allowed her to remain precise with her locations even when working with passes off the net. She was excellent when setting against the flow as well, shooting the ball from one pin to the other with incredible accuracy. Paxton showed some nice creativity to catch opponents off guard with her setter dumps and spent some time swinging on the right, demonstrating solid vision.
