Now part of the 1A #1 Lutheran Saints, Sophia is a lefty banger whose size and strength carry the offense AND block defense for her team. I just love a left-handed kid that can hit all of the angles with pace, plus sprinkle in a little blocking for good measure. Add to it her emotional fire on each and every point, whether she’s in the game or not, and you can FEEL how Miss Levine affects the match.

A recent transfer to Indianapolis Lutheran, Sophia is a HUGE pickup (literally) for the 18-6 Saints. The lefty banger is a Juniata commit, and has the size/strength/acuity combination that most kids envy and most coaches covet. I had a chance to watch her in person against Franklin Community, a 4A school, and she got kills and blocks at will against big, fast and experienced competition, and certainly didn’t shy away from her ability to physically and emotionally carry Lutheran to an almost-upset of the Grizzly Cubs.

If you are looking for a LEFTY, strong, young, heavy hitting right side, then Sophia is your young lady. At 6’2″ she uses every bit of her height to her advantage, absolutely SMOKING the ball when she gets set. Levine is a great counterpart to Lila Desserich Lila Desserich 5'8" Culver academies | 2027 State IN on this Academy squad, giving them some serious hitters on both pins. They look to give Lila a ton of swings during the match because she simply terminates and is very efficient, mostly because of the pace she puts on the ball which is difficult to dig and block (causes lots of blocking errors). If Lila puts some work into her blocking, specifically pressing back into the court and not drifting, she is an absolute next level player.

Tucked away at one of the smallest high schools in the state, Sophia is a tall lefty right side that is a problem for opposing outsides on both the attack and defense. Her length alone is problematic, as she can go over a lot of blocks that come her way. That length is also an issue for attackers looking to go line—she takes up more space on the block than she looks, and is gaining speed and experience with every match. I’d like to see what she can do during this club season, which should be a big recruiting year for her.
