The idea has been to do things a little bit differently this year, so after every match I attend, I’ll be posting a quick article highlighting the players that stood out the most in that particular encounter.
The final district match I got to watch in person this season was the one reuniting the top two teams from Conference 5A – District 20, the Foster Falcons (28-10) and the Fulshear Chargers (29-8) on Tuesday, October 24, in Richmond.
Both teams entered the match guaranteed in the playoffs and the Chargers (14-0) confirmed why they were the undefeated district champions with a flawless performance, which resulted in a sound sweep (25-19, 25-16, 25-6) of the second-placed Falcons (12-2).
Top Performers
Fulshear’s star outside hitter wasn’t always the most precise with her passing, but certainly made up for that with her excellent offensive performance. Warren scored at an excellent rate all night long, even when out-of-system, and made very few mistakes. She was set quite often, even when at the backcourt, and showed a wide repertoire to score in bunches. Warren also had a pair of strong serving runs on sets two and three.

Fulshear’s talented setter played a big role in the team’s victories on sets one and two. With the Chargers showing some inconsistency with their passing, James had to operate away from the net more often than she would have liked but she made the most of it, displaying excellent footwork to get on the ball and get their pin hitters (more often Warren) in conditions to score. When Fulshear’s passing improved, she sped up the pace, moving her hitters around and using her middles more often. James had a great all-around performance as she scored with setter dumps, blocks and aces and got a handful of digs.
Normally used as an outside hitter, Witte played as a defensive specialist and played a key role for her team. Her presence on the court in the backcourt rotations allowed Rachel Nordt, originally a middle, to get the job done at the net. Witte handled most of the serve-receive alongside libero Sydney Black Sydney Black 5’6″ | DS/L Fulshear | 2025 State #95 Nation TX and had good runs from the service line on sets two and three, with aces and serves that put Foster out-of-system.
Highlights
The physical Powell was a solid presence in the middle for the Chargers all night. She hit at an excellent rate during the entire match, siding out consistently and with very few errors, and displayed impressive power when hitting the slide set. Powell was also very active with her blocking and, besides touching a lot of balls, also got a few stuffs.

Jackie Onyechi
Foster’s athletic middle had issues getting her game going on set one as her team’s inconsistent passing made Onyechi be set not as often as she would have liked. She saw more of the ball on set two, when the Falcons managed to improve their passing a little bit, and had very good efficiency from the middle and the right. She also fired an ace on set one.
