Continue ReadingAfter the conclusion of the bi-district round of the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) playoffs on Monday and Tuesday, high school volleyball teams from all over the state of Texas will be back on the court on Thursday and Friday to battle for survival in the area round, the second stage of the postseason.
The next weeks will be filled with exciting matches in every corner of the Lone Star State and our Prep Dig Texas team will try and cover as many as possible to keep you up-to-date on everything that’s going on in the most important moment of the season.
We’ll also try to, as much as possible, daily present some of the most exciting matchups and starting today, will feature one playoff match in each of the four regions of the state of Texas.
Region 1: Plano West vs. Pearce – RL Turner HS – 6.30 PM
The Plano West Lady Wolves (30-3) lost just three times in the season and in two of those occasions, they pushed their opponents to five sets. The team won Conference 6A – District 6 with 13 wins and one loss and topped Allen in four sets in the bi-district round. The team’s top scorer in the season, senior outside hitter Blaire Bayless Blaire Bayless 6'2" | OH Plano West | 2023 State #63 Nation TX was on fire in that match, tallying 20 kills, while junior middle Kate Mansfield produced a season-high eight blocks.
The Pearce Mustangs (33-9) enter the area round with seven straight wins, including a sweep of South Grand Prairie in their first playoff match, and ranked second in Conference 6A – District 7. Junior setter Molly Harris has surpassed 1,500 careers assists this season and she’s been connecting well with senior right side Shea Dupuis and junior outside hitter Catherine McWorther.
Region 2: Cy Ranch vs. The Woodlands – Waller HS – 6.30 PM
The undefeated winners of Conference 6A – District 16 with 14 wins, the Cy Ranch Mustangs (43-2) are undefeated in their last 27 matches and cruised past the bi-district round with a sweep of Tomball Memorial. Senior outside hitter Bianna Muoneke Bianna Muoneke 6'0" | OH Cy Ranch | 2023 State #80 Nation TX has arguably been one of the top players in the entire state this season while sophomore Taylor Porter Taylor Porter 5'11" | OH Cypress Ranch | 2025 State #85 Nation TX adds physicality and great skill at the other pin hitter spot. The Mustangs have also seen the growth of two setters during the season in Kirby Kliafas Kirby Kliafas 5'10" | S Cypress Ranch | 2023 State TX , who used to play as a libero, and freshman Zora Bello.
The Woodlands Highlanders (39-9) were second in Conference 6A – District 13 despite dropping just one of their 16 matches. The team started the playoff with an easy three-set win against Benjamin Davis and is now undefeated in their last seven matches. Senior setter Claire Dewine Claire Dewine 6'1" | S The Woodlands | 2023 State TX is a great ball handler and also gets the job done when she takes up hitting duties, sharing the team’s scoring load with sophomore outside hitter Ella Lewis Ella Lewis 5'11" | OH The Woodlands | 2025 State TX . Senior libero Molly Tuozzo Molly Tuozzo 5'7" | DS/L The Woodlands | 2023 State #38 Nation TX is the team’s backcourt general and could reach 1,000 digs for the season against the Mustangs – she needs only 13.
Region 3: Alvin vs. Summer Creek – Goose Creek Memorial HS – 6 PM
The Alvin Yellowjackets (27-14) were third in Conference 6A – District 23 with eight wins and four losses, but they gained momentum after they upset Clear Creek in four sets in the bi-district round. Alvin have one of the most versatile and well-rounded players in the Houston area in senior Ana Garza Ana Garza 5'11" | OH Alvin | 2023 State TX , who had 26 kills, 29 digs and 26 passes against the Wildcats, and junior setter Korrigan Wright and senior outside hitter Mackenzie Strban also coming from excellent performances.
The Summer Creek Bulldogs (26-17) ended the regular season at the top of the standings in Conference 6A – District 24 with 13 victories and just one loss. The team kept its pace at the start of the playoffs, sweeping Pasadena in the bi-district round. Senior libero Kennedy Gustafson is one of the best in the business and handles the backcourt very well while junior right side Angelica Medina Angelica Medina 6'0" | RS Summer Creek | 2024 State TX and senior outside hitter Kamiryn Edmonds get the job done at the net.
Region 4: Fredericksburg vs. Bellville – Bastrop Cedar Creek HS – 7 PM
The Fredericksburg Billies (29-13) swept Cuero in the bi-district round after winning eight and losing four matches to rank third in Conference 4A – District 27. Undefeated in four matches, the team has a pair of tremendously talented setters in seniors Madisyn Jones Madisyn Jones 5'9" | S Fredericksburg | 2023 State TX and Sydney Schandua and has two other seniors, middle Clara Pluenneke and outside hitter Zoe Aldrich, leading the offense.
The Bellville Brahmas (35-10) saw their winning streak of 20 matches that helped them win Conference 4A – District 25 with 12 victories come to an end right before the playoffs, in a non-district match. The team didn’t lose focus and started the postseason with a sweep of Bay City. Bellville has a lot of defensive stability with senior libero Carly Lange and sophomore defensive specialist Sydney McKay Sydney McKay 5'8" | DS/L Bellville | 2025 State TX while sophomore outside hitter Samantha Marik has been a force at the net.
