The District All Met First Team Players

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The update on the rankings for the various age groups will be done in December. A new 2026 class will be created. I have seen close to 70 different high school volleyball teams play, many of them more than once. That still means there are some teams I have not seen play. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The all district teams and video can come into play when I have not seen a team play. Videos that show only a player's highlights and not their warts are not the best use of measuring a player's volleyball skills. You can see the technique and athletic ability of a player but you fail to see the consistency of that skill and the reaction to failure.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Only 100 players will be rated for each year. If a year does not have 100 players rated it does not mean that the player rated last is the "worst" of that age group. It appeared another sweep was in the making as they won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-22. A little bit too much <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='209171' first='Samantha' last='Dorn'] </strong>and their own errors gave West Potomac the game three win 25-15. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Game four did not go much better. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='181196' first='Arleigh' last='Hanson']</strong> guided the offense with her setting and Dorn and<strong> [player_tooltip player_id='244506' first='Isabella' last='Garey']</strong> continued to rifle kills into the Rams back row to even the match at 2-2 with a 25-21 win. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Game five saw some big time back to back blocks from middle <strong>Julia Pepper</strong> and the Wolverines had jumped out to an early 6-1 lead. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='181184' first='Chelsea' last='Colter']</strong> came through with a kill and a block of Dorn to pull the Rams to within one, 5-6. The Wolverines got off a string of points to take a 10-6 lead. Robinson turned to <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='235826' first='Bryton' last='Hill']</strong> for three kills and the Rams had closed the deficit to 9-11. At 10-13 Robinson served the ball out to give West Potomac the 14-10 lead and the serve.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>West Potomac missed their serve giving the ball back to Robinson. A side out would win the game. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='239319' first='Emma' last='Cortez']</strong> served and a block by Colter closed the gap to 12-14. An ace by Cortez and it was 13-14. The next Cortez serve resulted in a free ball and Colter came through with the kill to tie it 14-14. A miss hit down ball by Robinson somehow found itself fluttering over the net like a wounded duck and hitting the floor on the West Potomac side to give Robinson a 17-16 lead. Colter finished the game off with a block and an 18-16 win for Robinson to advance to the finals to play Alexandria city.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Alexandria City </strong>swept <strong>West Springfield</strong> in the other semifinal match to bring a Class 6 C final with Robinson tonight. This will be the fourth time they are playing each other. Robinson has won twice. <strong>Chantilly</strong> will be playing <strong>Langley</strong> for the Class 6D Regional championship tonight.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Colgan</strong> beat <strong>Forest Park</strong> for the fourth consecutive time to win the Class 6B Regional Bracket championship and advance to States to make an attempt to repeat as State champions. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Grafton </strong>has won the Class 4A Regional championship where they will advance to State and not have to face ten time defending champ <strong>Loudoun County</strong>. The last five years they have lost to Loudoun County in the State championship finals. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In Class 3 it was a battle between two undefeated teams, <strong>Hidden Valley</strong> and <strong>Tunstall</strong>. Hidden Valley is not any ordinary Class 3 team. They have beaten Class 4A regional champion Grafton, Class 6 Marshall and Norfolk Academy, a strong private school that is in the semi finals of the VISAA state championships. They did not seem to have any trouble beating Tunstall with a 25-14, 25-10 and 25-13 sweep for the Class 3D regional championship. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='196556' first='Caleigh' last='Ponn']</strong> finished with 24 kills to give her 630 for the year, second in Virginia and 32nd in the country. That is not bad for a girl whose normal position is libero. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
