Generating emails, social media, texts, the list continues – AI will play a part in recruiting. For now, I’ll be the AI Bot and give you the inside scoop on some of the Top Setters to take a look at in the Class of 2025 out of the Midwest.
Reese Axness Reese Axness 5'9" | S Champlin Park | 2025 State MN – Champlin Park (MN) – Northern Lights
I was able to see Axness and her Northern Lights team play at the Prep Dig Gauntlet over Memorial Day weekend where she was extremely dynamic for her squad. She is extremely well trained with getting her feet to the ball with high and fast hands. This team is really athletic and they have attackers everywhere who can put the ball away. She establishes her middles and will get one on one opportunities for her attackers. Her athleticism is what sets her apart, she runs the show and takes command of the court.
Teagan Jaynes Teagan Jaynes 6'0" | S Northfield | 2025 State MN – Northfield (MN) – MN Select
Northern Lights Qualifier was where I was able to see Jaynes play a few matches with her MN Select 16-1 team. She has the length and command to be a solid 5-1 setter. When she jump sets, she can remain neutral to go anywhere. The connection she has with one of the top 2026 middle’s, Elena Hoecke, is real strong when it comes to setting the slide. Her high school team of Northfield (MN) south of the Twin Cities has been on the rise the past few years and Jaynes will continue to be a key piece for Northfield and MN Select.
Madison Tripp Madison Tripp 5'9" | S Kaukauna | 2025 State WI – Kaukauna (WI) – FC Elite
Alexa Hernandez Alexa Hernandez 5'7" | S Green Bay Southwest | 2025 State WI – Green Bay Southwest (WI) – FC Elite (pictured above)
These two have been leading FC Elite 16 Navy out of the Appleton, WI area all season. This team is a dangerous matchup and will be playing in the National Division in Chicago to start July. Tripp has plenty of length and range where she is able to turn scrambles into something in system. Hernandez is one of the top defensive setters in Wisconsin where she has such a high IQ and savvy court sense. She could be used as a setter/ds at the next level. This group was the 15 National Runner-Ups last year in Indianapolis and it will be fun to see what they can do when they take the big stage again in less than a month.
Kameron Blizniak Kameron Blizniak 5'10" | S Romeoville | 2025 State IL – Romeoville (Illinois) – 1st Alliance
As a club, 1st Alliance is loaded with high level setters across all of their teams. Blizniak is the QB1 for 1st Alliance 16 Silver where I think they are a favorite to win the 16 National Division at USAV in Chicago. They have some explosive attackers and there is something different about Blizniak’s game where she knows how to find the open attackers at various tempos and will even take a few herself, setting the offensive tone. She is so composed when she plays, she keeps her teammates calm, and doesn’t seem to get rattled. This is one who might be a little under the radar that schools in the Midwest can’t miss.
Audrey Asleson Audrey Asleson 5'11" | S Benet Academy | 2025 State IL – Benet (Illinois) – Sports Performance
I was able to see Asleson play for one of the top large school high school programs in Illinois with powerhouse Benet Academy. She is so dynamic and a pure playmaker. Her range where she can get her hands to the ball and put up a hittable ball to her attackers. She can do it all from defending her position extremely well, attacking on the second contact, and blocking. She will be competing with Sports Performance 16 Elite as they look for a 16 Open national championship.
Billie Reiter Billie Reiter 5'11" | S Greendale | 2025 State WI – Greendale (WI) – MKE Sting
Madison Marx Madison Marx 5'7" | S Franklin | 2025 State WI – Franklin (WI) – MKE Sting
These two have had quite the role this year for MKE Sting 16 Gold where they punched an early ticket to the USAV Open Division at the Mideast Qualifier in March. Reiter has a smooth release and manages their balanced and high powered offense where she also has plenty of physicality at the net, coming up with some big time blocks. Marx has amazing hands, a smooth release, and a solid defender. She moves extremely well on the court and has great footwork to the ball.
