There are the jamborees, scrimmages, and camps. However, we are so close to practice, match days, and tournament weekends. Let the Iowa season begin. I'm going to be taking a look at the different classes and who is going to be on high alert for an All State nod. There are the players who were on the All State team last year, the usual suspects - but who has next? In order to be on All State team, athletes have to come from a great team or need really gaudy stats (some have both). The athletes on the radar for All State I have listed were not on an All State team last year. Some were on All District and others I just have a hunch that they will find their name among the best. Here is the Class 5A Preseason All State team.

Olivia Seeman - Des Moines Roosevelt - Class of 2024 (Committed to Pittsburg State)

The libero for the Roughriders was a standout among Juniors last year in Class 5A. She will head to Pitt State, a D2 school in Kansas that is in a very competitive MIAA conference that traditionally has some of the top D2 teams in the country.

[player_tooltip player_id='215749' first='Delaney' last='Miller'] - Ankeny Centennial - Class of 2025

Miller is one of the top outside hitters in the Class of 2025. She was an All District pick in 2025 and will be relied upon to score plenty of points for Centennial this fall. She was dominant all club season for Iowa PowerPlex 515.

[player_tooltip player_id='168188' first='Josie' last='Pundt'] - Johnston - Class of 2024

Pundt had a big junior season where she racked up 266 kills and 175 digs. Johnston has some unfinished business after getting upset in regionals in 2022. They have experience and a lot of firepower where they want to get to Xtream.

[player_tooltip player_id='251664' first='Claire' last='Ernst'] - Iowa City High - Class of 2024 (Committed to Oakland)

Keep City High on the radar. They have two big pins in [player_tooltip player_id='251664' first='Claire' last='Ernst'] and [player_tooltip player_id='215434' first='Emmy' last='McComas'] where the two will be scoring plenty of points. Ernst has verbally committed to play at Oakland University, a D1 school in Michigan that is part of the Horizon League.

[player_tooltip player_id='215408' first='Grace' last='Hannam'] - Cedar Falls - Class of 2025

Hannah has made a lot of gains in the past year as a middle blocker in the Class of 2025. She has been part of the Six Pack team who has made some big runs at nationals and is always one of the top teams in the region. She has a high ceiling where this could be a breakout year for her.

Melae Lacy - Iowa City West - Class of 2024

Lacy has a lot of athleticism where she can be really explosive at the net. She is someone the other side of the net needs to know about because she can run a variety of tempos anywhere along the front line.

[player_tooltip player_id='389834' first='Ava' last='Lloyd'] - Sioux City North - Class of 2026

Freshman season was a big year for Lloyd where she had over 225 kills. Sioux City North is definitely on the rise and will be looking to make some more noise in the MRC And postseason play.

[player_tooltip player_id='215439' first='Hollie' last='Peterson'] - Sioux City East - Class of 2025

Another Sioux City product, Peterson was part of the MVP 16 Red team who won a 16 USA Division National title at USAV Nationals in Chicago in July. Peterson has a really dynamic skill set where she can set or swing and can be utilized in a variety of ways. The Sioux City schools have really improved and will be in the conversation for a top eight seed this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='243182' first='Isabelle' last='Kremer'] - Pleasant Valley - Class of 2026

Kremer was just a freshman last year when Pleasant Valley took their senior dominated team back to the state tournament to finish with the runner-up trophy in 5A. She will be on of the key players for the Spartans where she can dominate on the right side. Her athletic ability will allow her to play on either pin and have a chance to contribute in all six rotations.

[player_tooltip player_id='389933' first='Ellie' last='Muller'] - Dowling - Class of 2026

Muller was one of the top middle blockers in the state as a freshman where she hit .300 on over 160 kills, but had an astounding 117 blocks. Dowling returns a strong core and will be a favorite to get back to Xtream.

[player_tooltip player_id='261075' first='Kaelyn' last='Wieland'] - Valley - Class of 2026

Another freshman who had a big season which landed her team in the Class 5A final four was [player_tooltip player_id='261075' first='Kaelyn' last='Wieland']. Valley was down to their final point in the regional semifinals and knocked off two ranked teams in the regional final and state quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. Wieland is a triple double machine where she can dish, kill, and defend. She will be a big time player for the Tigers this fall.

Katey Lockyear and [player_tooltip player_id='251675' first='Kamryn' last='Vogt']- Waukee NW - Class of 2024

Waukee NW got a taste of the state tournament last season and will be looking to get back and have a longer stay, playing for some big hardware. Lockyear was a key setter in their system and Vogt is an uber athletic middle blocker who will be able to do some damage. This combination will lethal as well as the other senior attackers for Northwest where they will have an extremely powerful front line.
