The Rapids are the two-time defending 2A state champions and are looking to complete a three-peat this season. Lauren Dreves Lauren Dreves 6'1" | OH Columbia River | 2024 State #46 Nation WA leads the team and is a Power 5 recruit. There are only a handful of 2A/3A/4A teams in the state that can match up with the Rapids, and in week 2 they racked up conference wins against Washougal and Hockinson in comfortable fashion.
The team rides the lightning bolt right arm of the top 2024 outside hitter in the state, Lauren Dreves Lauren Dreves 6’1″ | OH Columbia River | 2024 State #46 Nation WA . The Auburn commit was overpowering in Week 2 and may not be stopped at all this season. A long 6’1, Dreves has a great overall skill set and has played against the highest level of competition with Oregon Juniors. She is attacking at a .600 clip for the season so far, impressive at any level.
Mccoy is completely dialed in from the setter spot for the Rapids, and she is moving the ball with tempo and great location to her high powered attackers. She is squaring up, staying neutral and delivering to both pins and her middles without showing the defense where the set is headed. Mccoy played with tremendous confidence in week 1 and week 2, running down passes on the move, and making great choices moving the ball to both pins and the pipe.
Sophia Gourley
Sophia Gourley
The 2027 has been on the radar since her big club season with Athena, and she is providing a third attacker with punch for the Rapids. Gourley has a powerful arm, and the freshman prospect has been competing as a right side for the squad, with two matches hitting .600 or better on the year. With the talent on the team, her attempts may be somewhat limited allowing her to grow into the role. On many teams a player with her skills would be rushed into a massive amount of swings as a first year player, she has thrived in her position so far. Gourley has shown a heavy serve that keeps opponents out of system and strong hands blocking at the net.
A six-rotation outside, Sydney Dreves Sydney Dreves 5’11” | OH Columbia River | 2025 State #80 Nation WA is an excellent, high level prospect in her own right. She is technically sound as a passer and attacker, and makes outstanding adjustments on tough sets, keeping the pressure on the defense with well placed swings and shots. The younger Dreves is a terminal pin, and she has tallied multiple kill matches in the early season even with the Rapids sweeping opponents. The sharp angle swing she rips from both pins has been virtually unstoppable this season.
Highlights
The junior is working hard as a middle for the Rapids, she has also shown the ability to score from the pin when needed and is challenging opposing attackers with a tenacious block. In the match against Skyview, the 2025 prospect used her size and big arm to power down over passes and score on quick attacks from setter Macey Mccoy Macey Mccoy 5’8″ | S Columbia River | 2024 State WA .
The rest of the Columbia River contributors are playing at a high level as well, middle Logan DeJong Logan DeJong 5'11" | MB Columbia River | 2024 State WA is scoring on quick hitters running multiple routes, libero Ellie Ogee has shown excellent touch on first contacts, and right side Evie Wenger is scoring on shots down the line and with smart shots when she has to create. The team has a solid base of seniors with up and coming underclassmen, the upcoming rivalry game September 25th with Ridgefield is a great chance to make a statement for the Rapids.
