And, though the weather was warm, the competition was HOT. (Though I think we were all appreciative of the sunshine and mild weather!) Here are some key performances from the Minnesota Slam tournament.
Abby was nearly unstoppable throughout the Slam. She was lethal on offense in all six rotations. Abby is a lefty right side who is athletic and explosive. You can hear the snap and thump of the ball when she contacts it. Abby seemed to have endless options for earning points.
Meg was consistently a key player for Ice, who went on to win the 17/18 division championship. Meg was reliable, powerful, and impactful whether on offense, from the service line, or in serve receive. She plays at a very high level and elevates the game of those around her.
Isabelle was playing as a 6-rotation middle. Her sheer athleticism was impressive. Middle is one of, if not the, toughest position top lay, yet she didn’t get a break when she rotated into the back row. When I first walked over to her court, I was immediately impressed by her serve receive. I thought she was a pin; then I saw her take some rips out of the middle. Her composure and talent were incredibly impressive.

Sophia OWNS the net. Even since I saw her play two weeks ago at the Resolution, her speed, court awareness, and setter connection have improved significantly. Her swings pack a punch, and I would not want to be on the other side of the net when she swings on an overpass. Sophia is quickly establishing herself as a player on the rise in Wisconsin.

Emma was so impressive throughout this weekend. She caught my eye at the Resolution but has built up her connections with her hitters over the past few weeks. She has clean form and is very fast. Emma brings a spark of energy when she is on the court and never gives up on a play.

Haillie Schulz
Haillie Schulz
Haillie is an all-around impressive athlete. She is a lefty setter who runs the court efficiently. She has a huge impact on every play and is a natural leader on the court. Haillie is very competitive and fights for every point. She is already a high-level player and was absolutely essential in her team’s championship win this weekend.
D’naesha Stevens
D’naesha Stevens
D’naesha does all of the little things right on the court. She is quick, disciplined, and smart. She has clean hands and brings a lot of energy. She feeds her hitters and makes great defensive plays. D’naesha is a player with huge potential and had a stand-out performance at the Slam.
