Sunday I was able to officiate some high-level matches during the final play date for the HOA Power League. In this process, I’m always taking mental notes of players who are catching my attention. Here are some of the players who jumped out as high-level performers!
Sher stood out as a six rotation pin for Power ‘]. Her shot selection and ability to get kills when her team needed her was impressive to watch. One thing that caught my eye was her discipline to get her feet under her on out of system sets to still take an aggressive swing at the ball versus an easy free ball. I saw her in a few matches and she was the best attacker on the floor for Power .
Highlights
Sticking with Power ‘] for a minute, Leathers was smooth running the offense. She moves around the court with ease and has nice hands and ball placement. Her decision making was on display also from deciding when to run the slide, set the bic, or go over on two. Another thing that was solid was her defense, either in the back row or up front with the block.

This was my first time seeing Florez live and she lives up to the hype after a state championship season for Mill Valley. She makes everything look easy and watching some of her sets were just a thing of beauty. She controls things on the court and is a bonafide leader for Pohaku.
Highlights
One of the benefactors of Florez’s magic was Martin. I love her aggressiveness on the pin and she with each swing she has the mindset of, “I’m going to score”. Even with her hard swings, she knows when to take something off with a timely tip or push to the deep corner.

Topeka Saints run a two-setter system and they both looked really good to me. Watching the ball coming off of Kelly’s hands were butter. She looked to always be in control and did a good job with her bump sets when the first pass had her scrambling.
Highlights
Shriver was the second setter on the Saints roster. She comes in and keeps the offense steady while running the show. Her ability to push balls to the pin from across the court was noticed on a few occasions.
Highlights
Bahr was solid for Invasion in the match I witnessed. She is another high-level scorer I first saw last year in the 15s division. You can see her growth with more shots in her tool box. When her team needed a score, they knew they could count on her to get a good swing.

I saw Fight Club a few times and a few players stood out but I really liked the timeliness and force of some of the kills Harris put down. In some tight sets, she came through when her team needed her with hard line shots and tools off the block. She doesn’t shy away from the big moment.
