It was a great opportunity to see the elite of the sport in Texas battling it out and Prep Dig was at the FAST Complex on Saturday, where we got to watch all 20 teams that competed in the 17 Invitational division in action. There was a serious level of talent in this group and we’ll now feature the prospects that stood out during the day.
Here are some of the middles who dominated the net:
Collins was an important piece of division winners Houston Skyline 17 Royal, who won all their seven matches in the event. With fellow middle Bayleigh Minor Bayleigh Minor 6’1″ | MB Fort Bend Christian Academy | 2025 State #97 Nation TX sidelined, she stepped up even more offensively and was one of the team’s main weapons at the net, using her athleticism to score and displaying great chemistry with setter Kassidy O’Brien Kassidy O’Brien 5’10” | S Cinco Ranch | 2025 State #19 Nation TX . With her high contact point and her ability to hit in different directions, Collins was very difficult to stop. Her blocking also impacted the game in a significant way as she got some stuffs and forced opponents to hit around her, straight into her team’s defenders.
A new face with Dallas Skyline 17 Royal this season, Gillen-Malveaux was huge for them and played a big role in the team’s campaign of five wins and two losses that resulted in a second-place finish. The towering middle was probably the best blocker in the entire event and the way in which she dominated the net was truly scary at times. A tall, long and athletic player, Gillen-Malveaux complemented her physical tools with a very high volleyball IQ and great reaction time, which allowed her to read plays and move to the perfect spot to get stuffs. Her blocking technique was also remarkable as she played aggressively above the net to shut opponents downs. The middle also did a solid job offensively.
Highlights
Strenger started in the middle for her Excel 17 National Red team that ranked third with five wins and one loss. She played the game with great energy and helped her team remain engaged and positive on the court. Strenger was a very important offensive weapon for Excel, hitting the ball with power and precision, and was particularly effective when hitting the slide set. Her blocking was also solid, thanks to her mobility and length.
Highlights
With three wins and two losses, Taylor and her HJV 17 Elite team secured a fifth-place finish at the Tour of Texas #2. One of the tallest players in the tournament, she was dominant with her blocking and made a difference for her team at the net. Taylor was very quick to put her arms above the net and very aggressive with her moves, sealing the space available to opposing hitters. The Minnesota commit also showed she continues to improve offensively and made more of an impact on that side of the game as well.
Kpea and her Madfrog 17’s N Green team got two victories in six matches in Houston to end the event in 11th place. Very physical and athletic, she displayed a solid game at the net, especially on offense. Kpea made contact with the ball at a very high point, and displayed great quickness in her right arm and the ability to hit different sets at a very high level, being even stronger when hitting the slide set. Because of her great footwork, which helped her move very well at the net, she was also a factor with her blocking.
DeAndrea McMillian

TAV 17 Black Haroun got just one victory in five matches to rank 13th, but McMillian displayed great potential when playing for them. Because of her size and length, opponents struggled to deal with her at the net as she was able to hit over their tops and put a lot of power on the ball with her swings. McMillian also had good moments with her blocking, using her long arms to close the space up at the net. She was also one of the best players in the position when it came to serving as her tough floater consistently got opponents out of system.
