Having covered the recruitment of high school student-athletes for a long time, I feel like there's knowledge to share. While differences exist between the sports, there are more similarities.

First, promote yourself is OK. Start by putting together a volleyball highlight video. Someone is recording your matches. Include your favorite plays in one video. Send it to college coaches. Post it to your recruiting profile page. Make it as easy as possible for scouts to learn about you.

Chris Fitzgerald and others involved with the Prep Dig rankings do a wonderful job. These folks evaluate the athletes in person all year round. They work hard.

That said, there's no way to see everybody, development is not linear and there are many levels of college volleyball. It's important to find the right one for you.

We all know of under-recruited student-athletes. Those folks should ask for advice about how to raise their recruiting stock. Peers are the best people to ask, whether they're going through it now or already have found a future volleyball home.

Let's get you recruited!

That leads us to the focus of this monthly column moving forward. It will be dedicated to sharing the latest news on the college recruiting trail around the state. Please send anything you'd like to see included in the future to RobHoweHN@gmail.com. No recruitment is too big or small to be highlight.

Fans of football and basketball follow the recruitment of prep standouts in their sports. As college volleyball rises in popularity, interest is increasing on who the next stars will be.

Below is a brief rundown of information that hopefully builds each month moving forward:

Five of the state's top seniors-to-be committed to colleges in March. Northern Iowa picked up a pledge from [player_tooltip player_id='474081' first='Payton' last='Askelsen'], [player_tooltip player_id='215458' first='Brooke' last='Larsen'] gave her pledge to South Dakota State, [player_tooltip player_id='215464' first='Delaney' last='Miller'] chose Wayne State, [player_tooltip player_id='203590' first='Hadley' last='Hardersen'] picked Indiana State and [player_tooltip player_id='215429' first='Asta' last='Hildebrand'] selected St. Cloud State.

Of student-athletes ranked in Prep Dig Iowa's Top 15, only [player_tooltip player_id='215410' first='Kate' last='Passmore'] and [player_tooltip player_id='215761' first='Ellie' last='Schubert'] are the only ones uncommitted to a college. The Top 3 - [player_tooltip player_id='215385' first='Chloe' last='Meester'], [player_tooltip player_id='215406' first='Abbey' last='Hayes'] and [player_tooltip player_id='215426' first='Molly' last='Shafer'] - are committed to Louisville, Creighton and Northern Iowa, respectively. It's proving to be a class deep in talent.

It's been an impactful spring for the juniors- and sophomores-to-be. Send along any information on student-athletes in those classes to RobHoweHN@gmail.com, and it will be include in the May recruiting roundup.

Lastly, we'd like to add your college commitments to the site when we learn of them. If we miss any, please feel free to reach out so they can be included. The goal around here is to highlight as many players as we can so they can compete on all different levels of college volleyball.
