While it was not possible to watch every team and athlete, we were able to see a ton of athletes in action, placing priority on teams playing in Open and in the top 10 of the 16U division.
Below are the standout defensive specialists and liberos from the class of 2025.
We watched Azavedo in action as the libero for Athena 17-1 Gold. One of the top defenders in the state, Azavedo managed to cover an impressive amount of the court on serve receive. She is such a consistent and highly technical passer that her teammates trust her to take any ball that she can. Azavedo recently committed to the University of Washington!
Highlights
We watched Rapp, one of the NPJ Salem 17-1 National liberos, in action this weekend. Rapp played so steadily on serve receive, quickly getting under each ball to make some great passes. It was nearly impossible to get a ball past Rapp without her getting a solid touch on it.
Aplin, wearing the libero jersey for Rise 17 Flagship, was super fun to watch this weekend. She is not afraid to make some insane diving plays to save the ball, and she showcased great movement on the court to cover her attackers. Aplin just committed to Corban University!

Hildenbrand, a defensive specialist/libero for NPJ Salem 17-1 National, is a consistent and controlled passer on serve receive. Not only is she skilled in the back row, but Hildenbrand is also a strong attacker, and held her own when she had to play right side on Day 1 with some of her teammates out.
We got to see Monaghan in action as the libero for NPJ Bend 17-1 National. Monaghan showcased really good court presence, energy, and strong communication at the tournament. She also reads opposing hitters well.
