Athletes in the 2025 Class have had a really big year as they head into their final prep season. Some have wrapped up their recruiting process while others are in the thick of it. We've seen some awesome commitments made recently that get us excited for the future. With over 150 athletes ranked and almost another 100 on our watchlist this ranking class is full of amazing players. So how do we work through them all? Here is a little look behind-the scenes.

Does position influence ranking?

Each position on the court is incredibly valuable. Some are earning points with big swings on offense while others are the spoilers and prevent the opposition from scoring while also fueling their teams with the big rally-saving plays. You have the players that connect the defense to the offense and make game-changing decisions in a split-second. And of course we have the athletes that play 6 rotations and fill multiple roles while others come in for 3 rotations but are highly impactful during those 3 rotations. We all know that player that we give a sigh of relief when they rotate out of the front row. If you look at Prep Dig rankings across the country you will see every position has found it's way as a #1 and in the top 10. Players find all kinds of ways to showcase their talent and dedication and while position may help us in some ranking decisions, it really does come down to the athlete.

How are players evaluated and ranked?

When evaluating players we take a lot of variables into consideration including where they play club and what high school. What kind of tournament schedule and what divisions are they competing in? How are they performing at those levels and how do they perform when competing against some of the best. We really try to see how they play within a variety of settings if possible.

Now that the class of 2025 has had multiple club and high school seasons to make a name for themselves we have a pretty good idea of where they fall. But, this class has a ton of talent and we never know when the next hidden gem will pop up which is why our rankings and watchlist continue to grow. There can be a significant amount of movement for some athletes the more we get to see them and the more comfortable we feel in knowing where they land. We don't typically move player's down in rankings but when other player's improve or we get a clearer picture of where a player is and they move up in the rankings then naturally this may drop other athletes lower in the rankings.

National Ranked Commits

This class holds some athletes that have been highly recognized on a National level. These include #27 [player_tooltip player_id='191402' first='Carly' last='Gilk'] (Minnesota), #28 [player_tooltip player_id='117880' first='Mesaiya' last='Bettis'] (Iowa State), #86 [player_tooltip player_id='177424' first='Keira' last='Schmidt'] (Marquette), and #126 [player_tooltip player_id='177422' first='McKenna' last='Garr'] (Minnesota). These players are just the tip of the Minnesota talent pool and while there has been a huge influx of commitments there are still some really amazing players looking for their future home.
