“Newish” Names To the Notes App – CZ Day 1

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>“Newish” Names.&nbsp; What does that even mean?&nbsp; I had a parent ask me a really good question today while watching some matches at Central Zone.&nbsp; Where do you even start at a tournament like this?&nbsp; I typically start with 17 Open, then 16 Open, and I'll catch a couple matches of the 15 Open. This might be similar to a college coach where they are checking on their players that are committed, players on the radar, and then identifying new talent.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:embed {"url":"https://prepdig.com/2025/01/prep-dig-chris-photos-cz-day-one-15-17-open/","type":"wp-embed","providerNameSlug":"prep-dig"} --> <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-prep-dig wp-block-embed-prep-dig"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://prepdig.com/2025/01/prep-dig-chris-photos-cz-day-one-15-17-open/ </div></figure> <!-- /wp:embed --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Today I spent most of my time with the 16s and 17s with the open division and saw a few 15s at the end.&nbsp; I work from the top down in terms of divisions.&nbsp; I am looking for Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and other teams that are competing at the open level nationally.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>What does a new name mean?&nbsp; If I notice a highlight, something special, a consistent string of great plays and I put the number, team name, and court down in the notes app to be looked at a later time - that's a “new name”.&nbsp; I see a lot of these Wisconsin and Iowa athletes play year round, however seeing athletes from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and the rest of the Mideast not so much.&nbsp; There are athletes at this tournament that I have covered at the high school and club level the past two or three years.&nbsp; We all know the familiar names. [player_tooltip player_id='227802' first='Mallory' last='Matheny'] of Mintonette has been quarterbacking her offense and is a household name along with most of her teammates in the prep volleyball scene in Ohio, same can be said for Gabriella DiVita and the rest of her Legacy teammates.&nbsp; Boiler Juniors 17 Gold has a core group that has been playing together for years and are so fun to watch each season, I think I have their roster memorized.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>But who are the new names?&nbsp;
