<p>Christian Academy-Louisville sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='745824' first='Lexi' last='Schaffner'] brings experience as a defensive specialist to the team. Sacred Heart sophomores Rose Smith and [player_tooltip player_id='746362' first='Taylor' last='Berger'] also hope to contribute there with another Sacred Heart player in [player_tooltip player_id='484247' first='Taylor' last='Frey'] playing there or taking swings on the outside.</p>

<p>Sacred Heart sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='484248' first='Mia' last='Jasgarszewski'] is the setter to a team loaded with middle hitters. They are Eminence 5-6 sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='768283' first='Brooklyn' last='Smith'], Butler sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='535286' first='Layla' last='Green'] and DuPont Manual sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='771856' first='Kyla' last='Roy']. Sacred Heart sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='484424' first='Aubree' last='Payton'] will play middle or right side hitter. One of the most well-rounded outside hitters in the state in sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='484299' first='Madelynn' last='Yates'] is on this team along with another promising opposite/outside hitter in Mercy sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='603781' first='Ellie' last='Sharpe'].</p>

<p>The team is 13-9 on the season coming off a 6-2 finish at the Nike President's Day Classic for ninth out of 36 teams in the 16 Open Division in St. Louis. Nelson County head coach Anna Palmer is the head coach of the team. The team next plays in the MAVA Club Challenge on Saturday and Sunday.</p>

<p><strong>Elite</strong></p>

<p>This team also has a number of solid, experienced varsity players. The main ones are the 5-10 versatile sophomore Fort Knox outside hitter/setter [player_tooltip player_id='751934' first='Beatrice' last='Shirley'] along with South Oldham sophomore setter Madison Barke. Spencer County middle/right side hitter McKenna Kays and Louisville Eastern sophomore Megan Kemplin both had more than 100 kills for the respective teams last season.</p>

LKY Homeschool sophomore Mandy Kvamme is the other listed setter.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Frey is looking to step in and make up for the graduation losses on the offensive end for the Valkyries this fall. Frey does a great job anticipating balls. Frey does an outstanding job reading the setter then using her athleticism to put balls down quickly. Frey continues to grow throughout the club season.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Green does a great job producing from the pins and middle in the front row. Green is especially tough on slides and crease shots. Green mixes in some tough shoves to the lines to keep defenses honest.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Shirley does a great job making things happen all over the net. Shirley powers balls past blockers even hitting balls off them when necessary. Shirley does a great job painting lines and tipping balls to shallow parts of the court to keep defenses honest. Shirley gets in sync with the hitters and puts them in position to succeed. Shirley had 234 kills, 145 assists, 243 digs and 58 aces for the Eagles this past fall.</p>
