We're about ready to release our updated rankings lists starting next week, and it's truly remarkable how far some of these high school freshmen have come along since just last fall. Here are five athletes from five different clubs from around the state that have already turned heads with their size and athleticism this club season.

Capable of being an M1 or an M2 at the next level, Abbie is a coach's kid that has a high work ethic and an even higher athletic ceiling. Long, lean and explosive, Abbie plays for one of the best 15s teams in the midwest, and has already seen early success with their recent finish at Triple Crown in Kansas City. She's also a 4H kid, so she understands working hard, having high character and understands the discipline involved to be successful. I like her arm swing and the way she can take over the middle of the net on both offense and defense.

Big and physical, Addy is a strong-armed pin attacker that regularly causes problems for opponents on both offense and defense. On offense, her upper body strength and pace of ball is hard to block or dig for this age group. On defense, she's tough to get past because of her well-structured block and broad shoulders that take up space and limit opposing attackers' angles. Addy is a three-rotation pin attacker from either pin that has already made the rounds in a high-level club schedule, and is only going to get better and stronger.

More of an M2 because of her two-footed approach to the position, Brynn is a nice-sized middle for the next level. Playing in one of the most competitive high school programs in the state, Brynn's ability to terminate against high-level competition sets her apart from other middles in this class. I'd like to see a little more lateral movement from her when she defends at the net, as that might be a training point for her going forward. For now, however, her size can't be taught, and she already has a strong foundation of offensive play.

It's not often that southwestern Indiana produces an athlete that's (1) this big, and (2) can jump this well. Capable of going over blocks where others might not hit as high, Danica is a raw and athletic attacker that might be best paired with a setter that understands how high she jumps to get her to reach her max jump. To be honest, I have yet to see this young lady hit at her highest point because setters she's been with don't make her go reach for the ball. I would not be surprised if she's at or near ten feet on her attack touch, as she has more than enough potential to do so. Either way, Danica's athleticism should stick out immediately with the squad she's with, and the sky's (literally) the limit.

An impressive pin attacker, Elle can take over a match on the left side, as she's already done from time to time playing up on PHP's 16-1 this spring. We've seen her do just that at our showcases, and her size alone allows her to make some blocks look obsolete. Consistent training will allow this fabulous freshman to continue to max out her talent and athleticism, so playing with PHP should make her better in a hurry. I'd like to see a little more six-rotation play from her, as this would move her recruitment from projected mid-major recruit to high-end Power Four potential.
