If it wasn't apparent before last weekend's Iowa Regional Qualifier, the event proved that the 16U division in the state is loaded with talented student-athletes. The stiff competition made them all better.

The setter position was especially deep with prime-time performers. They teed it up for hitters to swing, defended and kept the operation running on time.

[player_tooltip player_id='493973' first='Gwen' last='Farley'] runs the show for PowerPlex. She's steadily sharpened here skills since the start of the prep season, particularly in defending the net and the back row. She shared setting duties on this squad with [player_tooltip player_id='490002' first='Emma' last='Vanden Hull'], who should have Centennial fans excited about what she can add to the Jaguars this fall.

The Rockets' [player_tooltip player_id='316380' first='Hadley' last='Miller'] plays all out all the time. She's as well-rounded as any setter in the state with her improved swing and defense at the net. Solon's [player_tooltip player_id='758827' first='Addison' last='Singsank'] does well in spelling Miller at setter so she can help out elsewhere on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='443125' first='Liv' last='Davis'] continues the theme of setters raising their level of play by sharpening their all-around games. The Waukee sophomore is better now than when I saw her in January, when she was improved from when she helped the Warriors reach the state tournament. There's no doubt who's in charge with her on the floor.

Select hitters receive consistently accurate sets from [player_tooltip player_id='490009' first='Leah' last='Caffery']. She takes charge on the court by being vocal and clear during the action. It feels like Caffery has a ways to go before hitting her ceiling.

United Elite's [player_tooltip player_id='489998' first='Belle' last='Seaman'] is progressing as a rapid rate. She's getting taller and stronger from a physical standpoint. It's helping her swing and defense at the net. She shares a strong connection with her hitters.

[player_tooltip player_id='493972' first='Tayah' last='Pollock'] has a great feel for the position. She's quick and gets herself properly positioned. It keeps CIA in system and maximizes its opportunities to finish points.

Clara Chandler's steadiness and precision are what Ohana needed to reach the gold bracket. United Premier's roster includes two sound setters in Paige Johnson (Marion) and Madison Hoffert (Mount Vernon).
