IA 2028 Watchlist: Six Setters To Know

The Iowa Class of 2028 Watchlist is out!  We have over 150 players to know from the 2028s who are completing their freshman year. Listed below are some setters to get to know that have made an impact for their club or high school squad.  We'll be taking a look other position groups and athletes throughout the state as we head into the summer season!    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2025/05/PDSizzleIA.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-776007"/></figure>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-prep-dig wp-block-embed-prep-dig"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://prepdig.com/2025/05/prep-dig-iowa-sizzle-who-is-going-to-coralville/ </div></figure>   <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2025/05/RG1A4374.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-776003"/></figure>    [player_tooltip player_id='545946' first='Addison' last='Waldorf'] has been leading the way this club season as her Iowa Premier 15-1 squad has qualified for USAV 15 Open, the top division of them all with the top 32 teams in the country.  What Waldorf brings to the table is great footwork, physicality, and athleticism.  She receives the ball high and neutral where she can find any of her attackers with multiple tempos.  The intangibles of her leadership really send her to the top with how she commands the court - she gives eye contact, she talks, and she connects with her teammates.  This will be an exciting summer for Waldorf and her teammates.      Weiland has had a breakout club season, playing for PowerPlex 15 Jackson who collected some trophies over the season at some major events, including Northern Lights 15 American title.  She is a dynamic athlete who can set and swing, whatever the team needs.  PowerPlex will be heading to Dallas for USAV Nationals where they will be in the National Division.  This will be a tough test for this squad, but with the likes of Weiland and company they will be in the hunt for some big matches come day three of competition.      [player_tooltip player_id='775066' first='Emmery' last='Dodd'] is quite the spark on the court where she is a dynamic defender and setter.  She had over 600 assists and over 200 digs as a freshman for Osage.  She covers quite the range as a defender where she can find a way to get a touch, bettering the ball.  This past club season she has seen time for CIA where Osage has developed a strong pipeline to the club out of the Waterloo area.  There is plenty of momentum being built at Osage with Dodd and crew with a strong group of returners ready for the 2025 season.      There is something - no, many things exciting about the game of [player_tooltip player_id='730426' first='Hazel' last='Schluckebier'].  The left handed setter/right side who preps at Iowa City High stirs the drink for the Little Hawks and for [program_tooltip program_id='431948' first='Iowa' last='Rockets'].  Her game reminds of another Iowa Rocket who had plenty of high school and club success in Avery Van Hook who prepped at Marion and was a lefty setter who could swing on the right side currently playing at South Dakota.  Schluckebier can score points on the right side, has a nasty serve, but is always finding ways to better others around her.  [program_tooltip program_id='431948' first='Iowa' last='Rockets'] snagged a 15 USA bid with a huge performance at the Show Me Qualifier where they will be ones to watch in Dallas. Schluckebier will also be on the Iowa High Performance All Star team this summer.      I was able to watch [player_tooltip player_id='758163' first='Jaya' last='Morrow'] and her Roots 15s squad at the JVA World Challenge in Louisville.  While competing in 15 Open, they saw plenty of teams who are competing among the best in the Mideast.  The note I had on Morrow was “Not afraid to be physical at the net”.  There are times where I see setters get uncomfortable when the ball is tight to the net, but Morrow attacks everything head on, she has a scrappy style of play that brings an energy to the court.     <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2025/05/RG1A4417-crop-3188x2093-1747327451.jpg?w=800" alt="" class="wp-image-775996"/><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">[player_tooltip player_id='701976' first='Adelyn' last='Stien']</figcaption></figure>    I first remember seeing Stien last year at the Iowa Midwest Live Showcase in May of 2024.  The savvy setter preps at Center Point-Urbana and has been playing on the Iowa United 151 Elite team.  She has a physicality and athleticism that gives her side a certain edge.  There is a competitive fire for her.  She is a well rounded fundamental player who gets her feet to the ball, but can also be used as an attacker as well.  The Iowa United 151 Elite team will be heading to Orlando to compete at AAU Nationals in June.
