[player_tooltip player_id='755132' first='Abigail' last='Battcock'] and [player_tooltip player_id='755129' first='Lillian' last='Battcock'] middle/Right Side ([program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']) - Imagine obtaining a pair of 6'1" twins that can either play middle or right side. That could be a luxury an already powerful Bishop O'Connell could find arriving at their school next year. The duo just moved to the area so they still need to adjust to the local volleyball vibe. The depth of the [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] roster limits the playing time of the twins but when they get on the court they show their potential.

At 5'10" Avery put up a strong block for [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] playing middle. [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] dominated at the MAPL in both York and Hampton. In support of this domination Avery stood out as one of the top offensive performers for the club. [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] sits in the top five clubs in the AES rankings for the Chesapeake Region.

This coming season she will attend Shernando High School. They rostered a number of sophomore players last year, finishing above .500. While no frosh made the varsity last season Avery could change that this coming season.

A physically strong left side who can put some velocity on the ball when her timing is right. There still exists a bit of inconsistency in her game which is normal for a young player still working on her footwork.

Alaenah also needs a little more work on gaining some consistency with her serve. A lot of balls go into the net which usually means the elbow is dropping during the serve. However, despite these minor flaws with some growth and more experience the potential exists for her to dominate on the court once the maturation process settles.

[player_tooltip player_id='768546' first='Eleanor' last='Jastrzemski'] OH (Momentum/Central Home School) - She has two older sisters who play middle, one of them now in college. Eleanor appears to be making her statement on the volleyball court as an outside hitter. She lists at 6'1" and plays six rotations. At the Gran Prix tournament in Richmond she played on the 17 team and held her own. Normally, she plays for the 16 team. No high school varsity for Eleanor since she is home schooled. She will play for Central Home School, which has a number of talented players on their roster.

[player_tooltip player_id='763157' first='Olivia' last='Li'] Libero (MVSA) - Olivia played exceptional defense digging a number of hard driven balls in the semi-finals at the Chesapeake Showdown tournament. She also showed consistency with her passing. MVSA Force will play in the Freedom Division in the USAV Junior Nationals.

Madison is the more consistent left side hitter for the Virginia Juniors 14 team. She also acts as their emotional leader on the court. When things are going well the momentum rises high. Madison plays six rotations and provides offense hitting in the back row.

It would not surprise me to see her start for Oakton next year as a frosh. She is one of many players registered for the Prep Dig frosh showcase on June 7. While she already impacts the game on the court she could become even better as she gains more experience.

Another player registered for the Prep Dig frosh showcase. Bay Area Volleyball Academy surprised at the Chesapeake Regional Bid championship, finishing fifth overall. The key player for that success goes to [player_tooltip player_id='762823' first='Brie' last='Mouton'], who set a 5/1. While the quick sets seemed absent from her repertoire that will come as she advances to the older age groups.

[player_tooltip player_id='752412' first='Alexa' last='Whitfield'] outside ([program_tooltip program_id='450416' first='East' last='Coast Volleyball Club']) - At 6'0" Alexa brings some height to the middle. She teams with [player_tooltip player_id='752416' first='Mallory' last='Beeson'] who made the Dandy Dozen list in an earlier post to give East Coast two talented middles. Neither player gets a lot of sets but they can both impact the game with their blocking. East Coast will be playing in the National Division at the USAV Junior Nationals in Dallas where they will represent the Old Dominion Region. At the Mid Atlantic Power League (MAPL) in Hampton they were very competitive against their 15 team.

[player_tooltip player_id='749353' first='Brielle' last='Wolf'] outside/middle ([program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge']) - [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] always trots out talented players with their younger teams. At 5'10" Brielle brings the height to play middle, but her swing is also suited for the outside. [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge'] normally plays AAUs. They rank fourth in the Region with Maryland Juniors and Metro ahead of them as well as [program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last=''] all of whom are playing at the National Division or Open..

[player_tooltip player_id='762829' first='Angela' last='Zhang'] outside (MVSA) - Angela is still a newcomer to volleyball. She shows a good swing from the outside and has the ability to play all six rotations. She generates most of the offense for MVSA with her outside play. They are currently in the Freedom Division competing in the USAV Junior Nationals in Dallas.

Maryland Juniors Receives Open Bid

Maryland Juniors finished in fourth place at the Show Me Qualifier. Normally that would have earned them an Open bid, especially since the top two teams already earned Open bids. Because a small number of teams participated in the event only one bid was issued. With eight at large Open bids left unassigned, Maryland Juniors received the Lone Star Classic at large bid to earn their place in Open.

This makes the 14 age group (for the most part the class of 2029) the only level to have two Open teams representing the Chesapeake Region. Metro also qualified with a fifth place finish at the Northeast Qualifier, but also finished second at the Show Me. Many of those players were discussed in the Dandy Dozen article posted earlier.

Spooky Nook May Madness Results

Because my team played in the event I did not get a lot of opportunity to watch the other local teams play. Especially on the last day when we won our last three matches to earn a medal for winning the silver bracket. It was the first medal for the girls. Amazing the excitement that winning a medal receives.

There were a number of [program_tooltip program_id='511606' first='Vienna' last='Elite'] teams competing in the event, The 17 team competed in the American Division and finished second,

The [program_tooltip program_id='511606' first='Vienna' last='Elite'] 14 Blue team won a three set thriller to win the silver division in National. They relied on the blocking of middle Milana Bartell and the powerful hitting of Maya Zadafshar. Maya actually belongs to the class of 2030 but you would not guess that once you see her hit. [player_tooltip player_id='775737' first='Hadley' last='Chang'] controlled the offense setting a 5/1. Hadley is another frosh that will attend Bishop O'Connell next year.

The [program_tooltip program_id='511606' first='Vienna' last='Elite'] Black 15 won the silver division in the American. They were led by the strong back row play of libero Lillian Kliner and defensive specialist Olivia Kucharkski. Lily McGuinness provided critical offensive play from the right side while Violet Sullivan did an excellent job with her setting.

A lot of hardware collected by [program_tooltip program_id='511606' first='Vienna' last='Elite'] at the tournament.

Go Volley finished fifth in the 16 National Division. [player_tooltip player_id='562335' first='Zeynep' last='Anaz'], who made the Marshall team as a frosh and hit left side appears to have found a new position with Go Volley. She set and hit right side. Her hands were good, at one time showing off a nice back jump set. Her younger sister Asli Anaz plays for Virginia Elite and rosters as a middle blocker. She will also play at Marshall next year. Other players who stood out for Go Volley include left side Sadie Bailey and middle/left side Sadie Bishop.

MOCO Magic finished second in the 14 National. They lost in the finals 25-18, 25-21 to NVA Black. [player_tooltip player_id='754674' first='Clark' last='Rodney'] hit a little outside in the set I watched. She lacks height but she brings energy to the court.
