Angela Zhang Angela Zhang 5'11" | OH Churchill | 2029 State VA lists at 5’11″while falling a few inches short of 10 feet with her approach jump. While those are good number her most important attribute is her incredible volleyball IQ. At the Junior Nationals she finished a third set with eight kills, the last five giving Metro National a 15-10 win. The coach appreciates her mental acumen so much that Angela acts as the court captain on the team.

Last year as a frosh she played a primary role in Churchill’s playoff run, finishing third on the team in kills. Only Siyena Fitsum Siyena Fitsum 6'3" | RS/MB Churchill | 2027 State VA brought a better hitting percentage to the team.

Churchill returns both Meera Patel Meera Patel 6'1" | MB Winston Churchill | 2027 State VA and 6’5″ right side Siyena Fitsum Siyena Fitsum 6'3" | RS/MB Churchill | 2027 State VA . Their leading hitter Lucille Deraleau Lucille Deraleau 5'10" | RS Churchill | 2027 State VA also returns. Last year they upset two time defending champion Richard Mongomery in the state quarter finals. They lost to Broadneck in the semi-finals. Broadneck would eventually win the Class 4 Maryland state championship over Urbana.

Metro National wound up in a tough USA Division. In their opening match against LV Avoli they lost a tough first set 27-25.

The second set looked pretty bleak until Angela Zhang Angela Zhang 5'11" | OH Churchill | 2029 State VA took charge. At 5’10” she is not particularly tall but she brings a decent vertical that gets her to 9’9″ with her approach jump.

Angela zinged a couple of big kills in the second set to help Metro National split the series with a 25-22 win. In the third set she delivered eight kills, including five kills to give Metro the last five points in their 15-10 win.

The floor captain is a solid six rotation player.

She now plays for the Metro National team and acts as their floor captain. For the tournament she may be the only player to finish off a least two matches with kills in the third set. Since I did not watch every match there may have been more.

In their first match against Maryland Juniors she pummeled a kill and finished the set off with a redirect to end set three 15-11. In a third set match against BAVA Blaze the last two points in their 15-13 win were delivered by Angela with game winning spikes.

She does carry a sixth sense where she appears to know where to spray the ball, whether it is just to keep rallies alive for the next kill attempt or to find the open spot on the court. It is rare to see her make a hitting error.

At 5’11” she brings an approach jump of 9’9″. Good numbers for an outside.
