“Oh no, AI is coming!”

Yes, bring it on! And we're making an AI generated volleyball player from the Class of 2028. What skills are we looking for? We aren't just going by position, we are going by skills to make the ultimate player.

The Hands of [player_tooltip player_id='545946' first='Addison' last='Waldorf']

I watched [player_tooltip player_id='545946' first='Addison' last='Waldorf'] of Iowa Premier quite a bit this summer where she is the silky smooth setter who can run every tempo in the book. Coaching against her this summer at the Prep Dig Sizzle I saw where she was causing so many problems for the other side of the net. Usually after a bit you can read where a setter is going to go, their tendencies. We couldn't with her. She is always neutral and can push it quickly to the outside or send it behind her. Offensively, she doesn't attack often, but she's so efficient when she does. There was one play where she jumped, turned to attack, and set a quick to the middle. That's a really mature play and she made it look so easy.

Iowa City has quite the gem in [player_tooltip player_id='730426' first='Hazel' last='Schluckebier']. The sophomore from Iowa City High does it all for her team. She is a lefty setter and right side where she brings plenty of dynamic elements to the game. There is plenty of efficiency to her game, but also a sneaky effectiveness where she can catch the other side off guard with her attack or find the wide open attacker for a big kill.

I know the volleyball world of Iowa has the hubs of Des Moines, Cedar Valley, Cedar Rapids, and the Quad Cities but Northwest Iowa produces some of top talent in the state. [player_tooltip player_id='573313' first='Deviryn' last='McCarty'] isn't just the top libero in the Class of 2028 in Iowa, but she is among the top 2028s in the country. This past club season, she played for a highly talented Kairos team out of Sioux Falls. Kairos is a top fifty club in the nation and has sent players to top programs across the country. Watching McCarty play libero for Kairos is a true joy where she is so smooth on the court, she is efficient with her platform, and just glides. She preps for MOC- Floyd Valley and will be one to have on the radar as June 15 approaches where she can officially start her recruiting journey. She has already been to some of the top college camps in the country.

The Terminal Swing of [player_tooltip player_id='560368' first='Elle' last='Hatlevig']

[player_tooltip player_id='560368' first='Elle' last='Hatlevig'] of Norwalk High School and Iowa Premier has been a special talent. If we compare her in basketball terms, she is a sharp shooter with an unlimited range and a pure scorer. Hatlevig is very fundamentally sound and have plenty of athleticism to add to her game where she can contact high, hit multiple shots, and finds a way to get it done for her team. Norwalk will be looking to break through to the state tournament after they fell one match short to Pella in 2024.

The Physicality and Block of [player_tooltip player_id='781456' first='Morgan' last='Kooiman']

[player_tooltip player_id='781456' first='Morgan' last='Kooiman'] first caught my eye at the state tournament in 2024 for Western Christian. As a freshman, she played with such poise and confidence. She played a little for Iowa Premier and she was one who really stood out at the Prep Dig Gauntlet where there were six open level teams in the field. She has length, strength, and the ability to lock down an opposing attacker. She is well trained and is the middle linebacker of the front line with a knack for anticipation to get that stuff block.

[player_tooltip player_id='694203' first='Belle' last='Cotton'] is a dangerous player. I've seen her play outside, right side, and she is a lethal attacker out of the backrow as well. She is also one who can score plenty of points from the service line as well with a hard, flat serve that can drop or blow up a serve receiver. She plays for Iowa Select and is off to a fast start for Davenport Assumption who will be a big time contender in Class 3A.

The Pursuit from [player_tooltip player_id='540833' first='Izzie' last='McDonald']

Everyone needs a little fire going on in them and that comes from [player_tooltip player_id='540833' first='Izzie' last='McDonald']. McDonald is a scrappy libero who preps at Iowa City West and has been a key player for Iowa United. She has a knack for the ball, finding a way to get an extra touch or bettering the ball. In only a week of the season she is nearing 100 digs, averaging nearly four per set.
