We're rounding out our post-LPS Classic coverage in the backcourt. Our previous features on standout sophomores and juniors have already mentioned a few standout liberos, but we can dig deeper into this stacked position group.

Nebraska's Class A and Class B powerhouses have no shortage of defensive talent to watch as we enter the second half of prep play.

This year's Papillion-La Vista seniors look eager to restore the program's winning ways. Ryan has helped that cause by anchoring the Monarchs' libero position, and she produced some of her best 2025 highlights at the LPS Classic. She was quick to pick up tips and roll shots in the middle of the defense, allowing Papio's electric offense to operate in transition. Ryan's experience and poise are already setting a positive example for a young Monarch lineup--a good omen for the future.

Capece has thrived while making her full-time transition from outside hitter to libero. She exploded onto the scene during her underclassman years at Omaha Marian, and some of those highlights came along the net at the left pin. However, Capece suited up for Premier Nebraska 16 Gold this spring and locked down the contrasting jersey with tremendous results. Her stellar passing and relentless floor defense helped 16 Gold secure an Open bid, and the grind hasn't stopped there. Omaha Marian has ascended the Class A ladder with Capece handling first contacts around the dial.

Bellevue West has a whole laundry list of defenders who can excel in the libero jersey, so we had some names to choose from here. We're going with Glomb, an exceptional junior who leads the Thunderbird ledger with 2.8 digs per set. Glomb was a standout without Premier Nebraska on the club side, so her emergence with Bellevue West is no surprise. However, Glomb has upped her game even further this fall to become a near-permanent fixture in the Bellevue West lineup. She dimes passes from any zone and brings infectious energy and effort no matter the circumstances. High-level experience at the LPS Classic will prime Glomb for further gains to close out 2025.

Paneitz was identified as a player to watch heading into the LPS Classic, and this sophomore delivered on the hype en route to Lincoln North Star's championship match appearance at the event. The Navigators already provide plenty of fireworks along the net, but Paneitz does the dirty work in the back row to let these stars flourish. She has seen some of the nation's toughest servers while competing with [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] on the club side, particularly during 16 Black's run to GJNC in Dallas. This has prepped Paneitz for the rigors of Class A volleyball, and Lincoln North Star is cashing in this fall. A tournament appearance has become the expectation.

Lincoln Standing Bear has generated plenty of headlines through its hard-hitting attackers, but don't forget about the gems along the end line. Pedersen made a lasting impression with [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 15 Elite this spring, culminating in the team's 15 USA berth at USAV Nationals. Lincoln Standing Bear is getting more of that steady influence. Pedersen brings rare instincts for someone still in the dawn of their prep career, so the Grizzlies have a lot to build upon in 2025 and beyond.

Donning the contrasting jersey as a freshman is a rare feat, especially on Class A's big-city circuit. Tallman has defied the odds with Lincoln Southeast. The hosting Knights leaned on their first-year libero throughout the LPS Classic, and Tallman opened the event with a six-dig-per-set performance against cross-town rival Lincoln East. Of course, Tallman also dished out the positive service receptions that aren't reflected on a box score. LSE is on pace to soar past last year's win total and could rise even more with impact underclassmen like Tallman providing year-to-year continuity.
