I traveled to Baldwin on September 13 to scout two early matches of the Baldwin Invitational.

The first match I scouted was a battle of avian with the Eudora Cardinals sweeping the Wellsville Eagles in straight sets.

Here is a look at six prospects who had solid performances in the open match of the morning.

[player_tooltip player_id='807813' first='Avery' last='Hemphill'], 5'10”, OH, Eudora, ‘27

One thing I learned watching Eudora is that Hemphill needs a bump up in the Class of 2027 rankings. She is currently ranked No. 134 overall, but don't be shocked if she moves up into the top 50. I was most impressed with the focus she has during a match. She doesn't get too high or too low when things are going great or terribly. She has the “Eye of the Tiger” and stays super locked in on her game. She played six rotations, recording four kills, 11 serve receptions, eight digs, and two aces. She has a wicked short serve that accounted for her two aces. I would highly recommend her to the Division II coaches who follow me. She is the kind of grinder that winning teams need.

[player_tooltip player_id='562034' first='Braydee' last='Miller'], 5'11”, OH, Eudora, '28

Miller was impressive at the net for the Cardinals. She finished with a team-high eight kills in the win over Wellsville. She is ranked No. 14 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. She has a huge wingspan and also plays basketball. She has the frame of a paint monster. I thought she would be more aggressive as a blocker, but maybe she was just slow waking up. She has an accurate serve that will play nicely at the collegiate level.

[player_tooltip player_id='886059' first='Hannah' last='Wegner'], 5'8”, RS, Eudora, '29

Wenger is a freshman who hit from the right side for Eudora in the Cardinals' rotation. She is a physical lefty who finished with three kills. She is currently unranked, but a Prep Dig Profile has been created for her, and she will debut in the Class of 2029 rankings in October.

[player_tooltip player_id='808439' first='Bailey' last='Hammerschmidt'], 5'6”, DS/L, Eudora, '26

Hammerschmidt was nails for the Cardinals in the back row. She recorded five digs and eight serve receptions. She has a nice base and communicates well with her teammates. Her “kicks” were on fire, so she gets points for being “swaggy.”

[player_tooltip player_id='814323' first='Jazlene' last='Kirk'], 5'11”, MB, Wellsville, '27

Kirk is a prospect who I feel has a high ceiling. She has a huge reach and gets lots of touches at the net. She finished the match with two kills and two blocks. She elevates well and can increase her stock as a prospect by improving her upper-body strength. She is ranked No. 235 overall in the Class of 2027 and will be on the rise during the next round of updates.

[player_tooltip player_id='829076' first='Alana' last='Green'], 5'9”, DS/OH, Wellsville, '27

Green is an interesting prospect ranked No. 231 overall in the Kansas class of 2027. She recorded four digs, 10 serve receptions, and one kill in the Eagles' loss. She is quick and athletic. I think she could be a solid utility player for NAIA or JUCO programs.
