Lakeridge Tournament: Stand Out Passers and Setters

On Saturday, October 4, half a dozen teams gathered at Lakeridge High School to compete in a small but tough tournament. Starting early in the morning and playing late into the afternoon, six teams from all over the PNW played to beat other teams and rise in rankings. Here are the setters and passers that showed up and stood out:    Harrington, a senior setter for Sunset, has an epic back set to her pins, launching the balls in the air and getting it right to target. She runs her offense well, using her eye work to see who is available and who will score her points. She communicates loud, constantly on the same page with everyone on her team.     Yeager, a junior DS for Sunset, pushes every ball to her setter, helping run an offense efficiently and smoothly. She scores points in the back row with her low and fast jump float, running to her position on the court after immediately ready to play defense. She is quick on her feet, making those hard moves and getting touches on balls.     Buddress, a senior setter for Beaverton, has a good consistent jump set, pushing sets to her pins and middles. She runs her offense well, making the other side work hard to keep up. She is very vocal when she needs help on the court, communicating loud to her teammates and moving her feet fast to the ball when she can get a touch and make a play.     Herrera, a junior libero for Reynolds High, works incredibly hard on the court, throwing her body on the floor when needed to make plays. She shows immense hustle, always making positive moves to keep the ball alive.     Smith, a junior libero for South Eugene High, is very active on her feet, constantly moving to dig balls or cover her hitters. She makes a move to everything and clearly refuses to let a ball hit the floor without her body also on the floor. When her setter is out of system, she uses her hands to push the ball to her pins, keeping plays alive.     Naiome Babia, a junior libero for Century High, has great constant communication with her team, telling hitters what is open, where the ball is going and if she needs help. She has good out of system sets to her hitters and remains calm on defense making swift moves to the ball. She scores important points in the back row with her serve, never letting up.     Esteban, a junior setter for Century High, has great low and fast sets to her pins, creating a fast tempo for her team. She runs her offense even when passes are off the net, keeping the fast tempo pace. She is loud on the court and vocal to her teammates, creating a positive atmosphere and fun playing environment.
