For the second straight year, the CIF-SS Division 1 girls volleyball final featured Sierra Canyon and Mater Dei. But unlike last year's final, which was also held at Cerritos College, the Trailblazers rewrote some new history.

In front of a packed house, Sierra Canyon defeated Mater Dei in the final 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 to win its second Southern Section title in Division 1 and fourth overall. After [player_tooltip player_id='888357' first='Kendall' last='Omoruyi'] and [player_tooltip player_id='545258' first='Evangeline' last='Jeffries'] combined for a block on the final point, the celebration was on, as the players jubilantly stormed the court, having avenged last year's finals loss to the Monarchs.

It wasn't just one player that stood out, there were multiple players who had match-defining personalities and plays. After all, matches like this bring out the best in anyone and everyone.

[player_tooltip player_id='545258' first='Evangeline' last='Jeffries'] was Sierra Canyon's most consistent offensive presence. Fearless at the net, Jeffries attacked through the block and anchored the team's front-row defense, making her one of the most impactful players of the championship.
[player_tooltip player_id='545313' first='Hanna' last='McGinest'] did a little of everything for the Trailblazers. She posted 10 kills and 8 digs, balancing offense and defense seamlessly. Her ability to adjust to Mater Dei's block and stay composed in long rallies was key.
Filling the void at libero following the graduation of Lauren Lynch wasn't going to be easy, especially against Mater Dei's power hitters. But Zaragoza rose to the occasion, anchoring the backcourt with 14 digs and keeping the Trailblazers in system. Her serving was just as impactful, delivering four aces that helped spark a comeback in the second set when Sierra Canyon trailed by five.
