Kendall’s Voice

“As a leader, I think one of the biggest things for me going into playoffs is making sure I’m bringing positive energy and keeping my teammates confident, no matter what challenges we face. I know my energy can affect the people around me, so I want to lead by example, stay composed, and remind everyone to trust themselves and each other. This playoff run means so much to me because it’s my last opportunity to compete alongside this group of girls before heading to Nebraska. I’m so grateful for everything this program has taught me, and I want to make the most of every moment we have left together. More than anything, I want us to play for each other, leave everything on the court, and finish knowing we gave it our all!”

Kendall Omoruyi Kendall Omoruyi 6'4" | MB/OH Sierra Canyon | 2027 State CA , a Nebraska commit, is PrepDig’s No. 1 player in California. Kendall ran a hitting clinic in the middle against Marymount. She hit with power and speed, came up with solo blocks, and even served an ace from the service line.

Kendall’s next clinic comes Tuesday when Sierra Canyon hosts Los Alamitos.

Kendall Omoruyi has spent four varsity seasons proving that size is only the starting point. Her numbers tell a story of refinement. Her efficiency has climbed in each of the last three seasons at Sierra Canyon. As a senior, she is hitting .427, a level most middles never reach.

That kind of climb does not happen by accident. It comes from better shot selection, cleaner timing with her setter, and a growing understanding of where the open court lives.

She is far more than an attacker. With 328 career blocks, she makes the net a problem for every opponent on the schedule. I watched her at the Durango Fall Classic, where she dominated at the net with her blocking. When hitters start adjusting to you before the ball is even set, you are controlling the match.

She operates with the steadiness of a player who knows exactly who she is. Her spot on the Watch List for AVCA Girls High School Player of the Year reflects that. Nebraska is getting a middle who arrives polished and is still trending upward.

Kendall Omoruyi Kendall Omoruyi 6'4" | MB/OH Sierra Canyon | 2027 State CA ‘s story has only grown stronger since we first featured her in this Juneteenth spotlight.

As the No. 1-ranked player in the Class of 2027, a Nebraska commit, a member of the USA Volleyball Women’s U21 National Team, with a ticket to play in this summer’s UA Next All-America Game in Orlando, Kendall continues to demonstrate the same resilience, work ethic, and leadership she spoke about a year ago.

Kendall has always drawn deep pride and motivation from her African-American heritage. To her, it represents resilience, community, and perseverance, values that continue to fuel her pursuit of excellence at the highest levels of the sport. Her heritage has helped shape the mindset that has made her one of the nation’s most accomplished young athletes while inspiring her to lead by example on and off the court.

Kendall credits her mother and longtime club coach, Terri Spann, as two of the most influential figures in her journey. Her mother’s unwavering support taught her the value of hard work and perseverance, while Coach Spann helped shape both her game and her character through an emphasis on fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Her message to younger African-American athletes remains as powerful today as it was when she first shared it:

For Kendall, success has never been just about personal achievement. It is about creating opportunities, inspiring others, and leaving a lasting impact on the next generation.

Kendall Omoruyi is the type of athlete who tends to shift the energy of an entire court the moment warmups begin.

Her combination of athleticism, physicality, and confidence already makes her difficult to ignore, but what makes her especially dangerous heading into UA Next is how much her game has continued to evolve after commitment.

Blocking has taken a major jump this season, and the technical adjustments, dropping the inside hand, reading the hitter earlier, and opening her body more efficiently in transition, are now creating a middle who is closing blocks harder and attacking with even more confidence.

What stands out most, though, is how she thinks when the level rises. She is not simply swinging harder. She is reading the floor, using her toolbox, mixing shots, and forcing defenders to solve different problems every rally.

Already verbally committed to University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Kendall looks like an athlete who is not just chasing an All-America roster spot…

She looks ready for it.

Kendall Omoruyi Kendall Omoruyi 6'4" | MB/OH Sierra Canyon | 2027 State CA approached Triple Crown with visible gratitude and competitive discipline. Being named to the 2026 NIT All-Tournament Team reflected more than a single weekend. It represented preparation, consistency, and the work built long before first serve. The Nebraska commit competed with aggression and composure in decisive moments, staying steady while remaining assertive when sets tightened. Her focus on being a strong presence on both sides of the ball allowed her to influence tempo and elevate teammates within match flow.

“Competing at that level showed me that I can rise to the moment,” Omoruyi shared, a belief reinforced by her resilience under pressure. Triple Crown strengthened her trust in preparation and highlighted her ability to remain consistent when intensity increased. Her gratitude for the recognition reflects maturity, while her performance confirmed why she belongs among the tournament’s most impactful athletes.

There is no change with the top spot of the Class of 2027 Rankings.  Kendall Omoruyi is number one.  The Class of 2027 middle blocker is the most dominant player in the field.  She previously played for Arizona Storm, but has since moved to California where she is playing for Sierra Canyon High School and will be suiting up for LOVB 17 Angel, a loaded roster of nationally ranked players.  Omoruyi will be heading to Nebraska who unofficially has the top recruiting Class of 2027.  Her ability to control the game out of the middle is just difference.  She has the blend of athleticism, physicality, and finesse that allows her to dominate the game.

Kendall Omoruyi Kendall Omoruyi 6'4" | MB/OH Sierra Canyon | 2027 State CA ‘s preparation for Triple Crown has been rooted in intensity and competitiveness. Her team has been fully locked in during practices, making every rep count and maintaining a high level of competition in the gym. Kendall’s focus has been on honing her skills and maximizing each training session to ensure she is ready to perform when it matters most.

She is especially excited to showcase her energy and court presence this season. Kendall wants to play with joy, bring confidence to the court, and show the progress she has made since last year. Her personal goal for the tournament is to be the best version of herself and reflect the work she has consistently put in over the past year.

Her advice to other athletes is straightforward and practical. She emphasizes the importance of rest and being mindful of nutrition, encouraging athletes to avoid heavy foods that can slow them down and to prioritize recovery so they can stay explosive and energized throughout the tournament.

Kendall Omoruyi Kendall Omoruyi 6'4" | MB/OH Sierra Canyon | 2027 State CA selected for NTDP Girls Indoor Training Series U19 Division – Kansas City, Missouri

Please officially welcome Miss Omoruyi to the State Rankings.  She is currently ranked as the best overall prospect in the 2027 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings.  She plays for Sierra Canyon High School and used to play in Arizona for Arizona Storm volleyball club.  Since she has moved to California, she has proved to be a phenom and fit right in with the best of the best.  The Nebraska commit is also widely regarded as the top volleyball player in the nation.  She also plays for our U19 National squad.  When you watch her for just a few minutes, you will see why everyone is in awe of her athleticism and power.  Moving with both grace and precision, she is surgical when attacking through the defense.  Her ability to get off of the ground super quickly and on time makes it very difficult to stop her.  In our opinion, you have to commit a double block on her at all times and pinch in the pins for that specific purpose.  If you do not, she will make you pay big time!  This young lady will definitely be on our Olympic team sooner rather than later and is a true joy to watch.  We are very proud to have her in our state and listed in our publication.  Please help us congratulate her on earning the top spot in our State Rankings.
