Teams from many different regions in the state of Texas competed this past weekend in the FAST Pre Nationals tournament, an event held in the Houston area that offered them an opportunity to fine-tune their games ahead of the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship at the end of the month.

The tournament featured 98 club teams from the Lone Star State, split into six age groups, which competed in three venues in the Houston area.

FAST Pre Nationals - 15s Division Photos

https://www.instagram.com/p/DZig6bLD9U7/

Prep Dig Texas was in attendance at FAST Complex on both days. The middle was a force at the net for them, hitting many different sets with power and precision and being very reliable offensively. Cubukcu also made an impact with her blocking, moving well at the net and placing her arms aggressively above the net to take up space from opposing hitters - she was always alert to deal with overpasses, sending them straight down. Another impressive aspect of her game was an aggressive and consistent topspin jump serve, which generated many free balls for her side.

Shyllon played for the AJV 15 Helix team that earned four wins and a loss in the event and tied for fifth. One of the tallest and most physical players in the division, she used her size and power to dominate the net. Shyllon was an important scoring option for her team, showing a well-developed offensive game, which included a very high contact point, the ability to put a lot of pressure into her swings and great vision to make split-second decisions when set in the middle. She also demonstrated good ball control, handling well short serves and free balls that went into her zone at the net.

Schubert represented the AJV 15 Molten side that tied for fifth place after getting three wins and two losses. A physical player, she thrived offensively with her ability to get off the ground and hit the ball with power, while also being very intelligent with the angles she picked for her swings. Schubert was very effective when hitting quick sets in front of her setter, but also had great success when hitting the slide set. Her solid footwork also strengthened her blocking, as it allowed her to get to the pins on time and press opponents above the net.

Dalecky's Club South 15-1 team took ninth place in the division with a campaign of three wins and two losses. Her impressive mobility allowed her to make an impact on both sides of the game when at the net. Dalecky was very reliable offensively, making contact with the ball at a high point and doing a good job of hitting around opposing blockers - because of her excellent footwork, she was always available in transition plays, keeping opposing middle in their toes. She also appeared well defensively, putting up a big block at the net and getting many touches and stops.

Hooker appeared with the IVC 15U National Angela side that had two wins and three losses over the weekend, ranking 25th. She was the team's main standout in the event, appearing well on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Hooker stood out for her versatility, as she was able to score from all three positions at the net by making good use of her vertical and swinging hard. Her blocking was also a factor, as besides moving well at the net, she read opponents very efficiently and had excellent timing to go up, getting stops even when opposing hitters worked with sets well off the net.
